Connor Wickham

Luiz was very clever in terms of making it look like an accident. He has a slight glance at where Connor's face is and puts his elbow in front. Definitely did deliberate though.

Thought Connor did very well yday.

i thought he played well, put himself about a bit and caused problems. happy with de canios choice and generally happy. chelsea gave me more happiness than all season

Pound to a penny his "choice" had more to do with telling Graham he's not fit enough to play at this level. ;)

Red and white blinkers off...

I dont think it was a deliberate elbow. It was never anything but an accident. Right decision.

Connor will come good playing next to a quick goalscorer. That's the problem. He is more of a link man because his hold up play is superb. He has 2 good feet too.

So Luiz has his arm by his side whilst running looks round raises his elbow and hits Wickham in the face. Is an accident.

He did look good. However he needs to start adding goals to his game. imo he never really looked like he was going to score and yes it was away to Chelsea but still.

All in all, I thought he had a really good game. A massive positive for me, and I think he will be crucial to our chances. He should have been given a go alongside Fletcher months ago, but never mind.

That's true but you can only do as much as what's created for you. He got into a few good positions yesterday. One of them being in the 3rd minute but greedy Sess decided to shoot from a ridiculous angle when Wickham had a tap in.

Thought he was ok in general play however can't remember him being involved in too many chances which we created and didn't offer much of a threat however i'd stick with him for Newcastle.

Waste of money? Liverpool paid 35 million for Andy Carrol, that should put things in to perspective.

Wickham is a talented footballer, but he's built to be a target man, which he will become a very good one as his touch is really good.

Alongside a goal scorer (Fletcher) and we'll be reaping the rewards. Bare in mind the lad is only 20 and is still developing, he was never bought for an immediate impact. I remember some ex-footballer saying if anyone expects Wickham to impress withing 3 or 4 years they're stupid. He was bought for the future, and when he starts to peak, if we're patient with him we'll have a very good and rare type of player at our club, a target man who's good with his feet.

we must have about 20000 thinking that then

Peter Crouch said in a recent interview that when he was signed by Villa at 22 he was too young for the Prem.

I'm sure Wickham's age would be taken into consideration much more by people judging him and far more would be forgiven had he come through our academy and not signed for a fee.
