It's funny to see how a year can damage the reputation of someone who was quite clearly the most exciting prospect outside the Premiership in English football. At the time, we were happy to have nicked him off the likes of Liverpool and Spurs with many other clubs who would have quite happily taken him. There are no guarantees in football and the same thing could happen to anyone stepping up from the Championship to the Premier League.

He had a tough first season in the Premiership. Injury hit just as he was hitting form, Bruce sacked and then he came back and played while quite clearly injured when we had nobody else to play up front against Blackburn. We shall see in the future if this has helped or hindered his progress. I think we still have a very exciting prospect on our hands.

This. Also time for people to stop thinking "he will come good" he is shite get owa it.

Goodness me!

Look the price was silly. However, the kid has a chance. He's 19 and a regular centre forward for england under 21's - imagine if your son was doing that and some tossers on the interweb technology thingy simply branded him as shite. Ridiculous!

Of course we do

Ah good to see you writing him off at the grand old age of 19. Showed when given a run of games at ipswich what a good player he can be. He has only shown it in glimpses for us but ffs he is a kid who given a chance can do a good job for us. With your stupid thoughts on the subject for instance how was fletcher doing when he was 19 ? He has a great manager to develop under now and would be useful getting him out on loan for a month or two to get him a run of games and then have him up to speed and back in the squad come november.

Glad to see him score. As for folks calling me a idiot or whatever, does that finish make him worth the price tag? Price was not his fault, but for me the lad should be busting a gut to get in first team. He hardly did a thing till he got that chance, you never hear the folks who go to reserve games splurting on about him.

Like I mentioned in OP, I really hope he comes good, will benefit SAFC hugely in the long run. He has to show a hell of a lot more than he is. I would hazard a guess that O'Neill prefers Noble.

The reaction on here to that goal suggests the lad has turned into Lionel Messi.

Misinformed and conjecture. There's a surprise.

19 years old, he could easily develop into an outstanding forward, as usual there's some complete bellends infest this board at times.

Out of interest which strikers are these? Genuine question, the only ones I can think of are the likes of Heskey, Carew and Agbonlahor who aren't exactly famous for having a good first touch. I know Henrik Larsson had a world class first touch be hardly played as a lone striker at Celtic, I thought he mostly played with Sutton under MON. I might be wrong like.

There first touch may not be the best but they can hold up the ball unlike Wickham

He could do with a few more passes within 20 yards of him in this match. The service has been horrific. The system looks totally alien to the attacking 3 midfielders. Danny Rose has been the best player by a distance for England.
I was there on Monday night as i live in Chesterfield where it was held. Wickham didnt get any decent service and took his goal well. What was within 10yds of him he normally did ok with but he had to try and win possession from a number of aimless in his general direction balls.

Attacking three midfielders such as Waghorn did lots of running around without really doing anything of note. Henderson strolled through the game pretty comfortably without really doing anything stand out but certainly wasnt poor. Shelvey was god awful.

Danny Rose looked promising. Got forward very well and was fairly solid defensively.
