Remember his age aswell, he hasn't really had much of a chance with us, loan him out for a season then see what happens

I don't think MON fancies him at all to be honest. Shame. I would have him 3rd choice without a doubt.

Dont think Connor Wickham will ever make it, certainly not under MON who likes a lone striker which requires a good first touch.

Hope he proves me wrong

Out of interest which strikers are these? Genuine question, the only ones I can think of are the likes of Heskey, Carew and Agbonlahor who aren't exactly famous for having a good first touch. I know Henrik Larsson had a world class first touch be hardly played as a lone striker at Celtic, I thought he mostly played with Sutton under MON. I might be wrong like.

Blackburn have just paid 8m for Jordan Rhodes, so in comparison it seems like the market price. Saying that, I think we over-paid but I think he could become a really decent player at this level, he seems to have all of the tools. Obviously as so many say, he didn't have anything to do with the price.

As others have said however, team selection would suggest MON doesn't rate him. We'll see an injury or two and if he takes advantage of the playing time he'll inevitably get at some point then you never know.

He will make it.

As for the price tag,how much did we pay for Campbell?

3.5 + addons as far as I recall.

Tbf rhodes was banging them in albeit was at a lower level, what was wickham doing in the championship to command such a fee?

We were ripped off, time for people on here to deal with it and move on.

It's time for people to forget about his price tag - it doesn't matter whether you think were ripped off or not - it's something that won't be proven for another couple of years.

Never see enough of him for me to make my mind up. What i have seen has been poor recently, but looked good before injury.

The price tag makes no difference now because we've payed it and we just have to get on with what we have.

It's like paying 6 grand for a ten yr old Fiesta and saying "Well it doesn't matter how much it cost because it still gets me to work and back".

No, it's like paying 6 grand for a 10 yr old Fiesta, leaving it in the garage and getting a train to work and back.

This. Also time for people to stop thinking "he will come good" he is shite get owa it.

I remember the game against Villa when he was up against Dunne and Collins , 2 big hard CBs. Wickham had a great game, scored and looked like he really enjoyed the fight - an 18 year old lad winning a physical battle with Richard Dunne is impressive. He hasn't carried that on but on that showing he clearly has (in my view) got some ability. Whether that can be developed and delivered consistently is the challenge for O'Neill and I would agree that a loan is the right way to go.
