He probably has no confidence because people have already wrote him off as shite.

19 is still young and to say he won't make it already is ludicrous, people still hold hope for noble and Adams who are 21/22.

With youth you'd expect him to be a lot more ambitious when attacking the ball. He needs to be more like Andy Carroll in that respect.

Hopefully he does come good at SAFC because he's clearly been earmarked since a young age in the England set up. I just can't see it happening as long as MON is in charge. He's never going to realistically challenge for a place this season with Fletcher and Saha now at the club and with us being a 'one up front' team.

Why should he attack the ball like Carroll? Just because he is big it does t mean he is a target man.

If its more a 4231 we are playing i think hed be better suited to left or rright wing while he gets used to the league and the pace of it. iirc he absolutely ripped arsenal to pieces from the left in the cup a few year back

If that was the case it would still be as a sub for McClean or Johnson. He needs loaned out.

Wickham needs games and hopefully some goals, it really is as simple as that

He could do with a few more passes within 20 yards of him in this match. The service has been horrific. The system looks totally alien to the attacking 3 midfielders. Danny Rose has been the best player by a distance for England.

I suppose I mean he should be more aggressive when retaining posession or attacking the ball... his size is clearly an advantage, he should be utilising it.

Every time I have seen Wickham he's often nulified by much smaller players who would probably be given a tougher time by a more experienced pro. I dunno, he just doesn't fill me with that feeling that would suggest we're on to something good.

I must re-iterate, I would love for nothing more than for him to become a top striker at Sunderland. I just can't see it, unless he's willing to wait.

Agree, would do his confidence the world of good. Get the impression that MON isn't keen though and must admit I have some reservations.

No way Id write him off yet

Best I've ever seen him play was for Ipswich v Arsenal a few years ago. Played on the right of a front three iirc. Almost right wing in fact. Ran at the defenders and gave them a torrid time.

Not really, Norway failed to clear the ball, ball played into an unmarked Wickham who then "walks" past a Norway defender who is randomly trying to play offside  despite him surely realising he was playing him miles onside and then places the ball past the goalkeeper, in all honesty the keeper should have done alot better too

Let it go Mini pal. Bitter as fuck cos Wickham is still at the Club and Bendtner has gone.

(I haven't seen the goal by the way)

Nailed on Shelvey wont be this bad on saturday

It was a tremendous performance

Glad to see him score. As for folks calling me a idiot or whatever, does that finish make him worth the price tag? Price was not his fault, but for me the lad should be busting a gut to get in first team. He hardly did a thing till he got that chance, you never hear the folks who go to reserve games splurting on about him.

Like I mentioned in OP, I really hope he comes good, will benefit SAFC hugely in the long run. He has to show a hell of a lot more than he is. I would hazard a guess that O'Neill prefers Noble.

The reaction on here to that goal suggests the lad has turned into Lionel Messi.

I might be wrong, but has he even played for the reserves?

I agree btw, he doesnt look very good and i said it before we signed him

What on earth is that based on?:oops: he hasn't played a minute under MON. Wickham was rushed back weeks early from injury for MoN's first few games rather than play Noble.

You're talking piffle

Wickham was looking canny at one point last season when he run of a few games but then got injured, far too early to right him off hopefully he learns a bit from Fletchers movement etc.
