If it's happening on here you can bet your life it's happening in the pubs and clubs all over Wearside. I'd hope the more sensible Sunderland fans are backing him up because that's what he needs, not reading sites like this where he gets slagged off by arseholes.

Absolutely. But it's not an SAFC thing is it?

There isn't a player alive who doesn't get Internet criticism and anyone who can't take it will never make it as a footballer.

Darron Gibson had to close his twitter account within a day of opening because of abuse from fans of his own club, I'm not aware if Wickham receiving even moderate criticism via twitter, which would be the only real way of direct abuse.

I don't see what difference it makes if people in pubs and clubs are saying they don't think he's very good either.

This.

I doubt he attends any pubs or clubs where he's subject to abuse, it'll be too full of arselickers and women fawning all over him.

Cheers.

It's not right for any club's fans to slag off their own young, developing, expensive players.

Out of genuine interest (I'm not fishing or being sarcastic), how did your fans treat Hugo Viana?

The young un looks like a knacker, however he is still only a bairn.... time will tell, though he probably won't get it.

It's a f***ing message board man - for people to give their opinions about players. It's not slagging-off, it's differing versions of players' abilities.

From what I've seen, I have no idea what his attributes are. Seems MON may agree.

What about Jon Dahl Tomasson?

Wickham is the worst striker we have ever had now.He should be informed tomorrow that he will never play for us again and he should look for a new club. If we're lucky we'll get about a tenth of what Br*ce payed for him

There was a time when we in mackemdom stood behind our own. We believed in solidairty and comradship. Sadly recent decades have seen scabs like you infilitrate our support

Wickham does not represent the spirit of SAFC, he is oafish and lazy, the trait of the mag.l I support those of talent and humility who believe in eveything our club stands for as a social and economic institution

You mean you talk out of your arse constantly by being contradictory..;)

On another note, the official website has him modelling some tops and he looks like the lads you see trying to get into nightclubs who've practised their suppose DOB on advance to get past the bouncers.

I know we have Vaughn in the squad, but there must be a better model than Wickham?

You don't half talk some shite like.

At the end of the day, almost everyone will ignore his age and just look at the fact he is a premier league striker, so I he doesn't score 1 in 3 or better then "he's shit".

Realistically, he came to Sunderland then go injured and then hasn't had enough proper starts to actually improve on his development, we either need to start playing him more and more or just loan him out

Right on the money.

He'll never get that ratio in the prem. Fair enough he's a young lad, and I'd personally give him another two seasons, but his scoring rate in the Championship was 1 in 5.5.

Ok, he was played on the wing a bit under Keane, but even then...

IMO, he just isn't as hot as prospect was was made out. I mean, Vaz Te has scored about 10 goals since Jan; that's only three less than Wickham got in his entire career for Ipswich.

A lot of strikers don't score 1 in 3 or better, but that seems to be a yardstick for fans to think strikers are shit or not ignoring their other abilities, Luke Bendtner's link up play

I agree you need to look at other qualities, although I don't personally think Bendtner's link up play is good, but over a 38 game season, if a striker has a 1 in 4 ratio, he'll score about 9 goals.

Fletchers scored 10 for a very poor Wolves side...a 1 in 3 ratio is pretty fair, tbh, especially if we want top seven.

At the end of the day, you buy players in a certain position to do a certain primary task, and a strikers is to score. Ultimatley, whether people like it or not, that's what they'll be judged on, that's what they're bought for and that's what they're paid for.

Thought he looked class vs Bolton away and was having a good run in the side. Shame when he get injured vs Man Utd? and hasn't been given a decent chance since.

Scored a good goal too.

Needs playing time be it for us or on loan otherwise he's going to continue being slated on here. The lad clearly has potential but just needs the time to prove it. Much like Gordon, his fee will do him no favours at all.

This is interesting, though: Wickham scored 9 goals in 37 games in the Champtionship for a team that finished 13th.

At roughly the same age, Bendtner scored 11 in 42 in the Championship for a team that finished 2nd.
