Exactly !!! In my opinion he will prove to be a gem . Still a young lad and I think there will be a great deal going on in terms of development on the training ground .

Some people have lost touch with reality in football ...he is still a young lad learning his trade . What do thye expect at 18 years of age ? How many at hi sage have set the top division alight ? Greaves , Rooney , Whitside , Charlie George perhaps not many more .

Our signing of Wickham is similar to Chelsea's signing to Lukaku, both are ones for the future who are being eased into the first team. It's not Wickham's fault that he's the first high profile, big money prospect that we've signed and it's not his fault that at times this season the money we spent on him may be have been better spent in the short term on a more experienced striker.

I still reckon he will prove a bargain.

Hyped up English kid. Paid well over the odds. It was karma, IMO. We ripped off Liverpool with Henderson, the universe saw it and we paid Ipswich £8 million for a kid with a 1 in 8 goal record.

At least Henderson is getting a game for the scouters.

I'm curious as to what he's actually meant to be/do. He isn't a target man, isn't a poacher and doesn't seem to have the best link up play.

The lad is 18, he's only been here a season. The majority of 18 year olds around the country are still playing for their academy sides.

This lad already has a tonne of experience in the Championship and has held his own in the Premiership. He's also had quite a bad injury this season which didn't help.

You've got to be patient with the younger players, he'll come good as long as he receives support and patience.

As a club, we don't have the patience, we expect an 8 mil signing to be good now. Truth is, he was never going to win anyone over yet. Personally, i still think he will turn into a top player. He played well when he had a run in the team imo. If MON is patient, he will go out on loan next season, and come back a better player. Same with Ji.

Agreed...

He is also still growing so it's difficult to maintain a good fitness..

It will be like Colback on here, slated and career written off...Then loved..;)

Agree with you 100% mate.

Someone should stick on a mag jersey and then bust his knee up with a hammer, we'd make our money back on the insurance and the media would have a field day about geordie thugs.

Would be win win for us.

I'd say Wickham made a bigger impact at Ipswich than Henderson did at Coventry. My Aunty is an Ipswich season ticket holder & raved about him at 17.

TBF that doesn't mean a lot when Ipswich were struggling under Keane at the time and nowt much was going right. You're talking about a side who Darryl Murphy starred for at a similar time on loan, they're obviously going to big up a young kid who looks good. The player who really stood out for them at that time was Colback and he was voted as Players player of the season.

Henderson came back from Coventry and slotted straight into the Premiership, he stood out at that level quite easily. Wickham is about promise, which has a lot to do with his physical attributes and has done it in fits and starts, not even playing regularly in his supposed proper position. There's something there to work with, but he hardly made a massive impact.

The times he's looked good he's been up with Bendtner, we cant underestimate how vital it'll be for a 18 year old novice to be playing alongside someone more experienced, someone who can take the burden off you and give you a bit confidence. When he went up front as the targetman against Boro he looked totally lost.

I'd like to see him given more minutes but that'd involve shifting Sess about and its not worth it at the minute. Maybe if the worst happens and we lose Sess then Wickham will be up front with a more experienced targetman next season.

f***ing hell, he's just turned 19 man.

Ok then....a 19 year old Flo.

Not sure why people get so upset about him looking nothing special, he doesn't. He might one day, he might not, either way at the moment he doesn't.

A good pre-season under o 'neill for next season and we might just start to see the best of wickham, at 19 years of age, he is very raw, but i would still like to see some game time from him this season...

Heard he has an ankle injury so will miss tomorrow, would involve him against bolton next saturday...
