Clearly wasn't good enough then. Don't try and pretend you know more then all those professional managers.
I'm not saying I do.... He under performed. No doubt about that. The headline is also total hyperbole, what he says isn't bad.

Headline designed to provoke emotion. He says he's grateful to the club
That's irrelevant, the pitchforks are out.

CW's work rate was never in question , his tracking back in the 0-0 at home to Chelsea and 0-1 at Scum were fantastic, wholehearted performances. However, this mis management thing is funny as fuck. Bruce, Mon, Ball, PDC, DA etc thought he was f***ing shit and rightly so....how do you mis manage a player who is simply not good enough..good excuse for a cheap pop at the club though......

Well from my experience it wasn't nonsense. He got far more stick than others, for nothing more.

To say 'fans were on his back constantly' is absolute nonsense and totally untrue.
It just wasn't the case, he was given lots of support by the Sunderland supporters.

We conceded 1 debatable goal against West Brom, a penalty against Southampton and kept a clean sheet against Newcastle.

Yes it's not great but it's too easy to just keep saying we're totally shite ....... just saying ;)

People kept saying that kind of thing so I checked it going back over the last 10 years.

It only happened 27% of the time

You got a super computer in the shed? How the hell did you find that out? Hat tip fella.

He did graft but he was a soft touch. He didn't make enough of his size and power and his first touch wasn't good enough.

The irony was Quinny was a role model he could have followed. Instead he couldn't lace his boots.
the same Quinn who learnt his trade far later in his career? Big strong strikers usually mature later.

And if we compare every big striker to Quinn then you'll constantly be disappointed. He'll have a far better career than watmore, I would put money on it. Yet one is groaned at and the other begged to play.

Did you go to the match often?

Agree with that. He's okay, needs to work on certain aspects a lot. Don't buy that he never grafted though.
I will pick 2 away games just of the top of my head which I went to last season west brom and QPR he was often further back than the fullbacks defending and looked shattered at the end of the game

We miss him.

His work rate was really good. It's a myth that he never worked. He'd actually have been ideal for what Big Sam is looking for out of our wide players now.

I'd love to see ground covered for stats for our games over the last couple of seasons. I'd be astonished if he wasn't right up there every week.

By a certain percentage I would say it was. Maybe I was over the top I agree, but he never got as much support or patience as other players were afforded.

Absolute nonsense ......... dear me, that's just pathetic man
To a certain extent. He wasn't slated constantly but some of the comments I've seen on here are over the top. No where near as bad people make out. Just because he didn't score 20 goals a season he gets called lazy.

People still peddle the PVA is young card occasionally. He's 25 Ffs. The reason he looked so bad this year is because lens didn't give a fuck

Despite him working probably harder than any other player physically.

No he wasn't, he was encouraged every time he got the ball ........... I wanted him to do well but he was very frustrating to watch.

Still say he was sold to fund the Lens deal. Allardyce wanted to sign Wickham and I think if you asked Sam who would you rather have he'd say Wickham.

We'll see how his career goes. He's done nothing to suggest there'll be a major improvements.

Niall Quinn got his first touch from playing football in a squash court when he was in recovery from a cruciate knee injury.

In similar circumstances Wickham would probably be quaffing crystal champagne, having his hair done and getting more scratoos. Too rich to soon IMO.

The reality is his career has not progressed at all since he was hyped up as a future England international. He will clearly never be an England international because he is not very good. So his failure to live up to the hype is the main talking point, just like Rodwell, we always sign the shit players who aren't worth the hype.

This is the main problem, because e looked like a wanker he was judged differently. It happens constantly.
