I’m astonished the club got the money back for him.

The reason we did is because during the time he signed for us there was massive transfer fee inflation. It meant you needed to do utter ******* signings to not make a profit.

The fact we got our money back on him suggests Wickham was a bit disappointing overall. The fact we never made a profit on anyone during that era speaks volumes for the calamitous scouting and running of the club.

He played many games for us and apart from a patch at the end of a season when he helped stave off relegation I thought he was poor. For the huge fee we paid and the age he joined us he did not fulfill his potential
