The man provided a fantastic stadium.

Hasnt cut his ties with the club even after all the abuse he got.

He also turned down offers of a quick buck to sell the club when he didnt believe the prospective buyers didnt have the interests of the club at heart, before eventually stepping down for Quinny and co.

Compared to Fletcher and co at magland he kept his dignity and behaved with decorum at all times.

A true gent, congratulations.

A nice tribute Festa and I concur 100%.

May I just add in 86 when he took over, he saved the club from bankruptcy. Thank you for the Stadium, Sir Bob

No doubting the man made mistakes but I agree with all you have said there.

Good post, I agree with all of that.

The quickest way to tarnish your reputation is to preside over an unsuccessful football club. It was shameful how he was treated on here but unfortunately that's the way it is.

Hated his Silent Bob stance but with the benefit of hindsight I agree with this.

Well said Festa. The pure hatred and bile spouted on here for a pure gent is embarrassing at times. Congratulations Sir Bob.

The imbeciles who slag him off should have been around in the Cowie days - and before that, the Colling era.

Lousy chairman. He had several opportunities to move SAFC on and got it wrong every single time. Shame because the guy is SAFC to his very core.

A hugely successful businessman, based on long term planning and following it through, but totally inept at, due to his introvert character, coping with the dynamics of football.

But Sir RSM gave us the SOL, on time and within budget, and the SAFC Foundation. The SAFC Foundation that got Lord Quinn involved in SAFC after his playing days were over.

Ok, congrats Sir RSM, but the wasted opportunities re SAFC (on the pitch, where it really matters and the rest follows) still stand.

He was a hopeless chairman and almost saw the club into administration. He heaped humiliation, upon humiliation on SAFC - 3rd division football, 15 point and 19 point seasons.

His knighthood obviously isnt for services to SAFC.

I bet in your lifetime he was also the chairman who gave you the best finishes you've ever seen. 3rd division football? He might of overseen it but he wasn't the root cause. You're trying to paint history.

Get to fuck man - utter failure. 20 odd years and delivered next to nowt. Just as well he built the stadium or youd all be really struggling to find anything to hang your hats on with him. He couldnt even be arsed to sell 1992 FAC final souvenirs.

Tight as they come.

However carry on....plenty on here with very short memories. I know what I'd be doing with the sword tomorrow.

From the moment he took charge to the time he left the ball game changed, he was not rich enough to cope with the ball change.

Was he ever rich enough to achieve anymore than he did

Took the club from one of its lowest ebbs, took us to our highest finishes post war, gave us our best team for decades, gave us one of the best infrastructures in the county on which to progress after he left, and sold us to a Sunderland hero due to his pure love of the club.

Ironic you have posted this just a day after one of our academy products has made his debut for England, an academy which was the vision and baby of Sir Bob.

If he was 'Lousy' I'd love to see a Good chairman ;)

Well done Bob, greatly deserved.
