My grandad died in a Nazi concentration camp. He fell out of the watchtower.

That was a POW camp but prisoners weren’t very well cared for.Andersonville I believe
Boer War.
There is a difference between a concentration camp and an extermination camp.
Term coined by the USA.
[wikipedia]
The term itself originated in 1897 when the "reconcentration camps" were set up in Cuba by General Valeriano Weyler. In the past, the U.S. government had used concentration camps against Native Americans and the British had also used them during the Second Boer War.
I stand corrected. Both sides had these death camps if my memory serves me well. That was a POW camp but prisoners weren’t very well cared for.
The camp commandant quoted something like “if yankees don’t die at the front then they’ll die here”.
In the civil war they were just POW camps as far as I’m aware but conditions were shite.I stand corrected. Both sides had these death camps if my memory serves me well.
What's it about?
Was disgusting the way the Nazis treated my grandad during the war. Passed him over for promotion time after time
Prisoner taking wasn't a big thing in a lot of wars/battles prior to the invention of rules to the whole game, wholesale killing & pillaging were par for the course, the Romans, Egyptians etc didn't mind a few prisoners, handy for slaves & a bit of savage entertainment or a bit of ransomingBollocks.
