There’s nothing left to protect. They’ve already sold the silver

Well Mumba, but Rodwell says they’re selling him anyway
Nothing to do with Rodwell though.
Reading that it sounds like Mumba wants away which is disappointing. Can't blame him I suppose
You can't, from the outside it looks like he has been really poorly managed. Having said that they have come out with the same kind of thing about most of the young players so not sure I believe them.

At this level it seems to me you should invest in a very good first 11, have three or four on the bench that could fill a gap and promote the best of the kids, even if they’re not quite good enough, they won’t get better without games and if they’re coming in to a quality first 11 their transition will be much easier.

Mumba should have been in and around the 1st team all last season, if he was still to be sold after having that experience we would have at least doubled the profit. He is a lad that can play in multiple positions like Onein, Absolute waste to cash in on him

Donald reckons we should be making £250k a month now we’ve got the wage bill down closer to £10m and our revenue is around £20m. Why does everyone assume it’s money related as opposed to incompetence
My comment was based on Rodwells comment about bigger clubs investing in their academies at the age of 16. If we don’t we come last and we have to buy more players. The ones who could be in the first time squad in the next two years need to be invested in or we spend elsewhere. The issue is we have to have a willing investor in charge who is thinking now and next. If we are run by people who want a quick sale and profit they won’t invest in the next.
I do not believe him.

Even If that’s their intention we need to see them walk the walk. We’re way past cheap sound bites.

Exactly right. I dont give a shit about the wealth of our owners. I just want to see a long term strategy implemented effectively.

They've proven to be very good at telling the fans what they think they want us to hear. Unfortunately they're even more proven to be a bunch of lying shitehawks so I'll take this with a massive pinch of salt.

But everyone on here said it shut down earlier in the week. Total certainly. Sold as part of the asset stripping etc etc 🤔

He would be miles better off at Norwich both financially and for footballing reasons.

How can an academy prospect be farmed out to Sheilds, not even make the matchday squad in L1 and yet be wanted by a PL side who bring through a lot of youth players.
The Shields one was an odd one for me, albeit it guaranteed him 90 mins every week and to be part of a successful side.
Both Shields managers are massive mags so one of them joked with me that he was joining a better team(!)

I guess Norwich will loan him out, but possibly with a plan in mind (bit like we did with Pickford) and chart his route to first team football

We will probably flog him and then loan him back for another clubs development we are that useless.

Welcome statement of intention. At least makes it more difficult for them do to terminal damage to the club in this fashion, anyway. That being said there's still a fundamental error of thinking in all this. He wants to get an academy director in who has a plan for retaining talent. Simply put, that position doesn't have the power to do that. It needs a clear pathway to the first team. And that needs a manager who is committed to developing young players. With a big squad of older pros and little appetite for rotation - we currently have virtually the opposite of that. Until Rodwell either appoints someone to oversee the football side holistically - or mandates it himself - he's kidding himself that a new appointee is going to fix the flight from the academy.

Or a director of football, rather than just an academy director. Or both.
