Not really sure what to make of this? They need to do something to stop the drain of talent but I can’t see what now.
Released 18 players and the best of the 16 -18 year olds all gone or going. We are not going to get any better at that Level for a while

Says it all tbh. ‘It’s difficult to keep players because the bigger clubs invest in their academies‘ We need a board who invest in making us good again not who get stimulated by running us off a league one budget. Someone needs to own us who can afford us. It’s difficult because we have the wrong owners who have no ambition and the players can smell the lack of it.

What he has said does address the concerns we have raised. Whether he does or can do anything to reverse the trend remains to be seen. However, he has got rid of Reid and seemingly identified one of the problems with the set up. He will be appointing someone with the brief to retain more talent and try to create a vision of how that talent is recruited and moves through the age groups. Let's hope he makes a good appointment. Taking away whether you choose to believe his words this is the first positive step for a long, long time and is good to hear. I totally understand the constant cynicism but he Rodwell has done something beyond words - got rid of an underperforming Donald appointment in Reid and that should be acknowledged.
Saying nowt until we see the appointment.
You should say something about him getting shot of an under performing mate of Donald's - that is a positive and lets hope a sign of things to come.

I think Rodwell's remit is the following:

"tell the fans what they want to hear, and buy us a bit of time to asset strip and then sell the club to any fucker who stumps up the cash we want. Oh and try to sell the ride on mowers from the academy for the best price you can get".

The damage is well and truly done. Too little too late. Even if the turn the academy into la masia overnight it’s going to be four or five years before we see the benefits now.

I agree, however it needs to be followed up.

I also really get the feeling they have reacted to the pressure by the fans not being happy with the way our Academy has been ran

I agree with the above. I hope that the club make a good appointment 👍

I think/hope you are correct. However, a new CEO coming into the job has to assess all aspects of the business and it didn't take a genius to see that the whole academy system was underperforming - results, retaining talent, routes into the first team. The first thing you would do is look at the person who is Director of Development and question his capability. The appointment is absolutely key but it is great news that this is the first thing he has really addressed beyond the question of season tickets. For me (and you) this the key failing of Donald and its good to see Rodwell actually doing something about it i.e. replacing Reid and demanding some vision from his replacement.

It's great to know we have the mastermind behind the success at Boston United and Scunthorpe as our CEO. I wonder how far down the league structure we will search for a suitable candidate to run a Cat 1 academy.

Everything that is comes out is reactionary statements....strip the academy then turn round and say weve done it wrong and must do better. Fuck the season tickets up for next season then turn round and say weve done it wrong and must do better. Fuck this season up then turn round and say weve done it wrong and must do better...the list goes on

Its as if they cant think for themselves, they wait for a backlash of fans pressure, shrug their shoulder and say yes youre right

and there is the rub, who can afford to bankroll SAFC who wants to?

To quote Donald Rumsfeld, sometimes there are unknown unknowns at play. Thinking laterally there is inevitably going to be a salary cap, squad size and home grown quota conditions imposed on EFL clubs, either next season or the one after. The question is how will they play out and how can the club with the largest income in L1 gain an advantage from that.

We can't employ more 1st team players than our competitors and we can't pay them more overall either so the only outlet for that extra revenue is the academy. How about clearing the decks of last season's failures at that level (being done by the looks of it) and using this financial advantage to stock the academy with the best kids around sub-Premier League and the best scouts and coaches out there. Let's do to EFL clubs what the PL clubs have been doing to us....poach their kids with offers to learn at a Cat 1 academy and play for the biggest club below the Championship.

The old model where you bought the end product is dead at our level. Let's hope someone at the club has noticed this and is acting on it.
