Colback outstanding AGAIN...

That's a fair point. Given Larsson's age as well, a new deal for Colback would probably be the most beneficial financially. Although keeping both is probably the common sense approach even if it's just shorter contracts so we don't have to do a whole rebuild at once.

Both of them are worker bees who at least put a shift in. Over a full season i'd be very surprised if we were ever good enough for either not to feature in some shape or form.

Realistically a Premier League side is going to field a side from 18-20 players maximum. Can you see us buying enough quality to put these two proven workhorses outside that pool? I can't.

He wasn't outstanding mate. He did what he always does and did the basics right. Unfortunately, time and time again fans think it's only the outstanding players who are worthy of praise and players like colback who are always a good outlet for the ball, rarely lose possession and are loved by managers and fellow players are labeled shite because they're not doing keepy uppies in the opposition penalty area. He had a good game today, and he usually does, but lets not label him something he's not eh? That makes us as bad as them who don't see what he brings to the team.

Totally agree. In the heat of the moment I've probably argued that I'd happily get rid of all of the players out of contract this summer, but the reality is that we've got to be smarter than that. I'd rather we brought in 5 or 6 players with our funds than 11 or 12 players. Colback, Larsson and even Bardsley fill shirts and allow us to focus on replacing players like Alonso and Ki where we actually have to spend money.

What's his problem with signing?

Does he genuinely want away or the terms offered just Shite?
He's not good enough. I'm pleased the lad wants away. Best of luck to him. Why do you want these players to sign yet more contracts. how short a memory do our fans have about how many times these players have let us down? Mental.

God forbid.

Have you not learnt anything supporting SAFC? Youd advocate giving these players another 2, 3 or even 4 year contract?

Absolutely, and i also include Bardsley in that category. We've already witnessed first hand just how difficult it is to replace even "average" proven PL players.

I've said it many many times:- The pecking order of top flight professional sport takes years to work itself into line. There are very few individual surprises but sometimes a lesser player can finish off the jigsaw puzzle to improve the team.
From first hand experience the chances of lower league players coming from nowhere and bossing top pro's are almost zero. The "machine" soon grinds them down to size!!:):):)

I'd love to replace the entire team with better players, but finance stop that from being a reality. How much do you think they would cost to replace?

We've got worse, and/or less productive, in the squad than the three names mentioned. Get rid of those first then we can look at these three.

I'd happily replace anyone in the squad for better. That'd be proven better players with Premier League experience though, not smart price budget buys with fancy names.
If we're lucky enough to stay up and want to continue in this league we can't gamble any more.

I have no idea but I know that as they are out of contract they can fuckoff for me. They have heaped too much misery on us already. Not only that but if you look we still have a nucleus of players who are in contract who we could use. We have loads of the 14 who we bought last season, most of whom have hardly had a game. We have an academy where none of the kids have been given a go and supplementing these players with say 5 more surely would not break the bank if we have the right scouting network in place.

I wonder, am I the only one who thinks he wasn't "outstanding"?

Decent game.... but really?
i'd agree with this but do think if we stay up we should be looking to hold onto him. at times he does look good but others im left scratching my head.

What makes you think that our youth players and the ones we bought last season are any better than the players we have now?

I'd rather have to rely on Colback or Larsson next season than El Hadji Ba and Liam Agnew.

Did I say I did?

I thought he had a very good game but outstanding is pushing it a little, for me anyway, I'd save that for probably scoring and assisting in a game.

Could have done better in a couple of situations first half yet was unlucky that others (mainly Borini) didn't provide him with at least an assist. To be honest I still stand by the fact that he plays a very similar game to that most games yet the difference being is that the players he passed to today actually did something with the ball and therefore makes him look better. I think his role/performance often goes unnoticed as in the main his passing is side rule and across the deck and he rarely looks for the hollywood [ass such as as a sprayed cross field pass or a dink over the top, as he is always looking to retain possession and thinks about who he is passing to rather than playing it in hope. Another thing which I think which goes unnoticed somewhat is that whilst he does give away quite a few niggly free kicks he doesn't half get a lot as well, particularly in defensive positions.

Probably shaded the motm for me of the 3 in midfield, and yes Larsson got an assist but that was from a corner rather than in open play.

Was ok second half, nothing special first. The type of player we should be keeping though.

I'd try to get him on a new deal. Keep Jack and Giak.

Bin Bardsley and Gardner.

Bit more divided on Larsson. Think he's set on receiving a bumper signing on fee somewhere else anyway.
