Colback outstanding AGAIN...

I think you're wrong. The things you mention are like a few others, additions to the basic skills. They're highly desirable but if you can't do the basics first you would never ever get a chance to do the "extras".
It's your mastery of the basics that largely defines how high up the tree you climb.
Your reasoning is slightly flawed as there's more than just attackers on the pitch but that's a separate issue.
This has come as a great surprise to me.

Colback was outstanding yesterday but i wouldnt say he outperformed Cattermole or Larsson. All three have been brilliant since Man City away.

Both of them complimented each other IMO. Both never gave the opposition a second worth of breathing space, both used the ball very well too. Colback resisted the urge to smash Mutch in the pyatt.

Jack is a decent player when he wants to be and can attack. More often than not he is barely noticeable.
I like the lad but he should be looking to break from deep alot more and take more responsibility in games. He certainly has it in him but he often leaves it to others. Cattermole has made some shockin mistakes at times (unfortunately they normal cost us) but he is much more pro-active/looking to get things going which tends to put him in difficult spots Jack doesn't risk putting himself in.
Jack isn't the young lad coming through anymore and he should be taking games by the scruff of the neck which he often doesn't attempt to do.

Nothing personal and i know you won't take it that way.:)

I've come across literally hundreds(maybe more) of decent amateurs who practised "party tricks" or had fairly good specialist skills. I can barely remember one who wasn't eaten by the machine when they stepped up to the highest level.
It was a good experience for the vast majority. They learned to respect even lower level pro's who they previously hadn't rated.

1 - not officially
2 - not personally, but know someone involved in the contract talks
3 - he is out of contract in less than a few months so can speak to any club

agree
Thanks for clearing that up.
I was under the impression he could only be approached by an overseas side before July.
Perhaps he will be convinced by Poyet to stay if we stay up.
Hate to lose him on a free.

He seems to lack confidence, which is a shame as he would have progressed far more than he has if he had confidence in his own ability.

They do, hopefully same against against Man Utd.

yep, hope im wrong mate and hope he changes his mind

There was a group of older blokes on the metro home last night from Sunderland, one of which claimed to be Colback's dad. His mates backed him up on it; and we believed him because (i) he was the spitting dabs of Colback (albeit a lot balder), and (ii) "our Jack" is all he wanted to talk about. His patter was that the club never offer Academy players decent money, Colback is currently on - and was offered - "washers" to stay at the club and that he probably won't be going to Newcastle (we obviously pressed him on this point) as they have offered "even less". He said there was still every chance that he would stay at SAFC, particularly if we stay up; although he was unimpressed by my opinion that Lee Cattermole was the best player on the pitch yesterday.

I have no way of validating that the bloke was in fact Colback snr other than to say to those who were there; he was very convincing. He was not pissed and did not appear delusional. Make of this what you will.

I bet Jack can't wait until he's bald.

We have threads like this everytime colback has a good game. The problem is, he is incapable of keeping that level and in fact can drop so much, he is really poor and totally anonymous in other games. Decent player on his day and i would probably keep him, for the right wages. He's not good enough to be one of the top earners or to be guaranteed a starting role in cm, so still wouldn't be too fussed if he left.
