Club Shop and Merchandising.

KLD’s father saved Adidas from oblivion so I’m sure the family have good contacts…it wouldn’t take years if we had a professional at the club with the ability to oversee such matters…many lower league clubs have far superior marketing than SAFC. As I’ve said the on pitch improvements are laudable but off it we are absolutely shambolic and it’s simply unacceptable.
Have a like for a sensible post. Keep getting told the owners are no nonsense, hard businessmen with years of experience. On the pitch there is no argument that is true.

Off the pitch is a disgrace, if they are that good it would have been improved already, yet the stock excuse is "concentrating on on the pitch" still haven't had explained how such fantastic businessmen can't do two things at once

That’s why all this stuff needs to be taken to, and answered by, the owners. Presumably they think Davison as COO is on top of things. I don’t think I’ve ever read a quote by him on any of these fair criticisms of the clubs abominable off field operations.

If Davison thinks criticism of him and the clubs shambolic marketing and PR is unfair then let’s hear why and he can have the chance to state his case and tell everyone what the club are going to do to improve it.

Even Donald tried to sort it, the containers in the car park to get the footfall of fans before and after a game.

My son keeps seeing new kits and asks why are we always behind everyone in releasing. He is 13 and I wish I had an answer for him.
The lateness of every new kit release both home and away is beyond comprehension ? Kids going away on summer holiday ideal target but season after season we appear to be last ?

I’ve had an absolute nightmare with them, so much so that I’ve now lost my season ticket seat because they are incapable of answering there phones.

The fact the club shop is still at the Stadium has never made sense, it would be far better off, inside the bridges, i have always thought that, along with a few others around the region, however i suppose they could come back and say well if everything is online then we don't need shops etc, however as we have seen plenty of things can happen to prevent people getting deliverys on time, however saying that even during christmas time, not having it located in the city in the shopping district, when people are doing present shopping for christmas, has never made sense, you would think the club would make a fortune,
I don’t agree people like me who travel up on match days-there’s a few of us-go into and buy from the Stadium shop.If it wasn’t there I wouldn’t be able to buy as I don’t shop in Sunderland.I agree that the online shop is useless and the goods on offer are limited.

I’m a lifelong Sunderland fan (living in Leicester but born & bred in Seaburn) working for a company specialising in design, production, web sales and marketing within the sport & leisure sector. Clients include UFC, Liverpool FC, Real Madrid FC. I feel that the SAFC merchandise product range offer and webstore experience are extremely poor and contacted the club last year to offer our services.

I sent a proposal to the club last year along with a detailed analytical report on what was wrong with the current merch offer & web store performance but they came back stating that the club had entered a 5 year contract with another company and that they weren’t interested.

I believe that if we could pursue this again we could offer fantastic clothing / accessories for the fans and generate substantial income for the club.

SBNation are interested in running an article & I wondered if RAWA would be interested in looking at this with me?

Any other suggestions would be welcome.....
Good post.
In my previous local pub in London one of the regulars used to work for Lacoste. He’d regularly be choking on his beer at the club shop polo shirt tat worn by WHU, Arsenal,Spurs, Utd, Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers lads who drank in there. One look at the current SAFC shop shows why: eight polo shirts iirc and not one monobloc colour one. They’ve all got squares, stripes, hoops, different coloured arms and collars etc.
Hed explain that Lacoste have four monobloc colours that always sell at full price and are never on sale. Red, White, Black and that nice blue they do. The rest always end up on sale alongside the shitty ones that are their equivalent of the safc rubbish. That’s what safc should be concentrating on. Red, White, Black, Blue single coloured polos with nowt added apart from the current badge then the ship badge then the black cat from the stAdium walls then the 73 badge then the 60s badge.

I don’t believe anyone has bought one of the current club shop polos for themselves with their own money. They’re presents that the receiver has wished they’d never received. God help the eyes of their friends and families if they ever wear that shite.
The poor approach to ticketing and club shop is baffling.
“Poor”? It’s not even that good marra.

There’s no accounting for taste.
Sadly, a lot of the absolutely horrendous garbage merch seems to get bought and worn.
Hopefully the success of the 73 anniversary stuff will show that not everything has to be garish and cheap looking.
