Closest you have been to death?

I got out of a car because I had a bad feeling about it. I avoided a RTC by doing so.

This very moment in time.
I was having trouble swallowing so last Tuesday I had camera down to see what the problem was. Sadly they found a cancerous tumour just about blocking my oesophagus and a small satellite tumour. I had a CT scan Thursday morning and I'm going to receive a phone call on Tuesday after a meeting with cancer specialists. I suppose I'll learn my fate with this phone call but I have my endoscopy report and have to admit it's pretty f*****g grim.
Enjoy life while you can folks, wine, women and song. Most importantly don't waste time on hate.
Fingers crossed they can get on top of it and sort it for you.

Bloody hell Dave. Good luck.

Got a rusty metal spike through my hand when I was 12.
Mam took me off to casualty and waited while they gave me a once over and a couple of shots.
Next thing a resuscitation team are dashing into my cubicle as my heart had stopped.
That's how I found out I'm allergic to penicillin.

In Zante in about 2008.

Missus (no) was in the apartment using a hairdryer before we were off out for the night. I had just finished sorting my hair out at the sink and my hands must have been still relatively wet. Took her hairdryer out from the socket as need to plug in a charger and got a huge electric shock man!

Felt like my hand was stuck to the wall for a good 3-4 seconds before I could let go. Horrifying like. Didn't feel that clever for the rest of the night. Thought I was a goner.

Misdiagnosed peptic ulcer disease that I had for over a year before I ended up in the ICU. A couple of endoscopies, several blood transfusions, regular check ups and a few years on tablets after that.

Not me but the missus. Yesterday she borrowed my van to go to the shops, when she got back she said she just brushed against a fence and the paintwork on the side of the door got marked but there is no damage. I wasn't that bothered until I looked, the front wing, door, sliding door, side panel and rear wheel arch are all bent and scratched, bless her she even bought some universal cleaning wipes to try and hide the damage. She came close, very close.
Bless her? She’s just written ya van off by being a shit driver :)

Last time I was at the doctors they told me my file says I’m allergic to penicillin. No don’t was aware of this, not even my mum. I’ve filled in medical questionnaires saying no allergies etc. Either I’ve been lucky I’ve never been given it in the past, or there’s some poor fucker out there with a similar patient number who’s going to need a shot of adrenaline next time he has tonsillitis.

I’m allergic to penicillin but only when I have a certain condition as it reacts to the virus I have at the time. Other times it’s fine

So you might be allergic in this way without remembering, as it’s not as severe as the previous story

Brayed the back of my head off a curb, ambulance job, woke up getting put into it.

Never realised what had happened till the doctor told me in the morning.

Thank God for all that milk I drank on the round those few years earlier.

We were preparing to climb up the external staircase of a building that was on fire when the whole place unexpectedly collapsed, it really didn’t look that bad inside or have any signs or symptoms of an impending catastrophic failure . The roof slid right over the landing we were planning to stand on to hit the fire. If we were up there when it went we’d have been killed without a doubt. We just burst out laughing cos were f***ing stupid.

Good luck and best wishes Dave. Take care fella.

Sepsis twice , and a PE which I did not admit to for 3 days of crippling pain. Not forgetting 30th birthday when an ambulance should have been called.

Had an asthma attack 5 year ago. Started off the usual shortness of breath which was progressively getting worse as the hours went by, so stupidly used a full ventolin inhaler to try and combat it. Went to bed and within half an hour I was telling the mrs to phone an ambulance. Paramedics arrived in minutes, put me on the nebuliser and injected me with something to help as well. Then they wanted to take blood (big no because I hate needles) and I started panicking which in turn started shutting my breathing down. Ended up on the living room floor having a respiratory arrest. Woke up in a&e 5 or 6 hours later with about 20 medical personnel around me. The mrs & parents then came in and I was told had the paramedics not been there I’d be gone. Spent 2 days in icu then a further 2 weeks on the ward. Loads of tests later and my asthma is now classed as brittle asthma.

Had a couple of times I’ve thought “what if..”
One innocuous one that keeps coming to mind was sitting in traffic on the A59. Sitting waiting for a car three in front of me to turn right and all of a sudden oncoming traffic (two or three cars) started driving off the road through a hedge into a field. A big wagon hadn’t realised we’d stopped and was coming up behind us at about 60, he’d pulled over to the wrong side of the road at the last second

If he’d ploughed into us he’d have easily wiped us and the two cars in front of us out
