Clarke’s value in January and will the club cash in?

If we sign another winger for the left side early in January, this would be a telling sign, as another aspect of the model we are adopting is "have a replacement ready before agreeing to sell anyone".

If that happens we get good value, if we sell first we get our eyes scratched out.
Same as we did with Stewart?
£40-50M or do one....in the football world a young English talented winger goes for silly money....he has a lot of talent and produces the good nearly every game...in a world where Grealish goes for £100M Clarke has to be worth Half as much at least...
50 million 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Might be slightly exaggerating how good he is here mind

only way I'll accept it if we sell Clarke is

firstly if its for a minimum of 20m

rather than buying players for absolute peanuts and trying to make a profit on them

we look at 3 or 4 additions at a level above, players who might cost us as much as 5m but if by playing for us, giving them game time, they become 25-30m players.

Unai Emery has spoken about watching us before and how he likes the way we play. Would Villa see Clarke as a good squad player for a relatively cheap 20/25m with possible add ons?...possibly.

I don't think there's any intention of letting Clarke go in Jan, but if a big offer was to come in from an established top flight club, then I guess Clarke himself would want the move.

We've got a bit of cash from the Stewart deal sat there even if we don't sell Clarke, but the squad needs thinning down, and we've got too many (right or wrong) who are not being given any game time. That needs addressing before adding more players who may or may not get into the matchday squad.

I'll stick to my guns here....if people want him that badly then get your cheque book out... who was the kid who went to/from Forest for £40M?
He’s a much better player than Clarke tbf.

Clarke is good but he’s a bit of a flat track bully like.

Does he turn up against the big sides much?

Much as Clarke is very decent, let’s not get carried away,he’s still unproven in the prem league
I think Clarke would find it tough if he moved up a level. Our whole game plan is designed to find him in space against an isolated fullback. I’m not sure he has the all round game yet to be effective against premiership defences, especially as he won’t be the focal point for the team.

Most players are bigger, faster, stronger in the prem so it’s a big step up for anyone, that said Clarke is a great little player so may have a chance at making the transition if he left, but nothing is guaranteed, some thrive in the prem, others struggle like mad.
seem to recall Newcastle having that Gayle fella, couldn’t stop scoring in The championship, yet looked way off the pace once they were promoted

In my eyes £20m min, could probably push for £25m late in the window but I fear the club will let him go for £15-20m.
Do we not lose a “ chunk “ of it in sell on ?

Villa wont finish top six
Hope not, I ve got £20 on they won't. They do look quite canny at the moment.
His worth on here has been artificially inflated by the fact he is now on penalty duty. Same as Stewart last season. Take Stewart's penalties out of the equasion last season and his goals per minute ratio was similar to Simms yet people were calling him the best striker in the league and Simms not good enough.
He was miles better than Simms, penalty goals or not. Its not even close.

I think our form between now and Christmas will decide it. If we’re flying again he’ll probably be happy to wait until the summer, if we continue to stutter he might worry that his own form might suffer and the interest will drop

I'm sure the club would like to cash in but he's our top scorer, it would be suicide cashing in on him while our strikers are so poor.

I’m afraid I don’t agree at all. Simms was a donkey compared to Stewart who was a better scorer and was a lot more mobile and able to bring his team mates into the game with his positioning and clever movement off the ball. I saw little of that in Simms.

Has an oil club ever failed to get out the group stages?

Simms will be a decent championship striker
