Clarke’s value in January and will the club cash in?

This is not meant to be a bed-wetting post, but we have lost too many games already this season. The fact that we dominated possession but still lost to a lowly-placed team shows we don't have the consistency or class to maintain a real promotion push.

I think that type of result will encourage the hierarchy to cash in on Clarke in January, while his stocks are still high. I also fear that we are not ruthless in the transfer market and, while other teams dig their heels in over what they'll accept for their players, I think we'll cave in around15 million. I hope I'm wrong on both counts.

£40-50M or do one....in the football world a young English talented winger goes for silly money....he has a lot of talent and produces the good nearly every game...in a world where Grealish goes for £100M Clarke has to be worth Half as much at least...
I'd love that, but I reckon 20m+ is a fair price. He's top championship level, not prem level imo. Against good defenders he often struggles.

May as well put a sign up saying we don’t want to score goals if Clarke is sold, regardless of fee, even 20m I’ve no confidence that money would be reinvested for a suitable replacement, because whoever was bought for that figure wouldn’t sign what I’d imagine we would offer in wages

The problem is our reliance on him and our more miss than hit recruitment.

We probably wouldn’t see any replacements get a start until October next year

Given the money spent, the age of our players the time our recruitment staff have been here and the transformation we've undergone I'd say you're talking out of your arse. If only three or four of our current set of kids at all levels go on to become premier league players we'd be well on our way. Top level professional football spells heartbreak for most.

"97% of former elite Academy players aged 21 to 26 found not to have made a Premier League appearance. at any one time between 10,000 and 12,000 boys in youth development system and only 0.5% of Under-9s at “top clubs” likely to make it to the first team".

Of the current starting 11, most were with us in League 1. The recruitment model is that we buy young and cheap, develop and sell, with young players ready to step in behind them. We achieved the first step, but of the players who are now ready for a move to the prem, who are their ready made replacements? No player is ready to. Look at Amad and Stewart leaving if you need an example
People seem to be forgetting that we pay money to watch talent play for Sunderland. We aren’t a glorified academy for prem teams. Yes we want to develop players, but I’m not prepared to sit happily watching players that might be good in 3 years time. Develop, sell and reinvest. The standard of players recruited should rise in line with the revenue brought in from transfers.

I've been told we accepted an offer for January and it was agreed but Jack wants to wait until the end of the season, if we don't go up, he will go, was told 20 million was the figure and it was between palace and Brentford

He might as well go in January and get 6 extra months prem football and wages under his belt in that case.

FFS. You ask any club to pay close to that and it will be them who say "do one".

Loyalty only goes so far, a lot depends on where we stand position wise in the New Year. If he is ambitious and we look like a lame duck I can see him wanting to take his chance in the premiership
