Clarke’s value in January and will the club cash in?

We don’t know what was promised to the lad when we turned the Burnley bids down. By all accounts we’d told him a figure that was met and we turned it down (rightly so too). Did we tell him a new figure? Tell him we needed time to get a replacement established? Hopefully no promises were made and we can stand out ground and keep him. We’ll probably find out in 15 years time on some podcast.

Let’s see how close we are to the play offs come January. If we’re a distance off then I think selling chances increase. Get the money but it also frees up an attacking spot in the 2nd half of the season, we’ve got so many players not even close to getting decent minutes, if the second half of the season is a free hit when we can’t go up or down, I’d be playing these players and finding out if we keep or sell them in the summer.

if they have an established striker lined up for around 10m who can guarantee goals, then if an offer comes in for £20m i can see him going.
Just makes good business sense if AA can slot in that role.
If the striker bangs them in, then i can see any supporter anger being quelled pretty quick
Doesn't make good business sense at all. And would be a horrendous football decision. It makes both football and business sense to wait until the summer.

We need to maximising the value we get for our assets. Not selling at the first sign of a semi decenf fee. And we shouldnt ignore that his value has gone up as the season has progressed.

I know I say this a lot, but the lack of rotation means that we have no clue if there’s a player in the squad who could produce on that left side if he moved on. He’s the one player that I think we couldn’t afford to rest, but I genuinely can’t remember him being subbed off with any significant time left in the game for a replacement to show what they could do

Whatever….🤷‍♂️ if an adequate bid comes in we’ll sell, if it doesn’t we won’t. This is our line of business now.

Will I be disappointed….? yes, will I be disheartened…? no, this is the model we’ve all bought into.

So long as every penny is reinvested into the club then, so be it!

He might want to thank his lucky stars the club turned down a bid from Burnley given their start to the season.

I will admit, how his future is handled represents a big moment for the club. You should never get attached to players, and that's especially true when your club has a buy to sell model.

It was disappointing to see Ross Stewart go but he was developing a habit of bad injuries and the money was very good all things considered. Clarke hasn't had that same issue, so the fee will suggest how canny KLD/the club are at negotiating, and how they reinvest that money (if at all) will indicate the true ambitions, at least across the next 18-24 months.

Reinvestment is key. If we see the money being pumped back into the team effectively the fans will stick with the process. I just hope we never hear the term “running costs” when it comes to transfer income. I don’t think we will

"In that case, flick the lights off and buy a f***ing striker."

20m and he's gone. I'd take it if we can guaranteed spend it on players asap. Otherwise keep another year.

We wont buy an established striker in january(mainly because its not our model and jan is a terrible time to buy as you always overpay and you know we wont do that) and the sale of clarke will damage the team both physically by his absence and emotionally by crumling team morale! But as many have pointed out if the club thinks he has reached the peak of his value curve he will be gone.without any care to look at the effect on the squad.

If we sign another winger for the left side early in January, this would be a telling sign, as another aspect of the model we are adopting is "have a replacement ready before agreeing to sell anyone".

If that happens we get good value, if we sell first we get our eyes scratched out.

Who was Ross Stewarts ready made replacement?

We signed 4 strikers, 1 being striker/attacking.

I'm not saying we have it down to a fine art yet.
We signed 4 but none were ready, that's the point.
I thought the model was to have the replacement ready to step straight in.

£40-50M or do one....in the football world a young English talented winger goes for silly money....he has a lot of talent and produces the good nearly every game...in a world where Grealish goes for £100M Clarke has to be worth Half as much at least...

The striker situation aside (where Speakman’s previous transfer windows have come back and bit him hard) the only way we’re going to have ready replacements is if Mowbray properly integrates them.
Imo Mowbray manages the club like a person who knows he won’t be here for long, and so takes a very short term view with his team selections.
We knew we were losing Amad last year, but went into this season having barely played Ba. It wouldn’t be a huge shock if a team came in for Ballard in January, but we still don’t know if we can’t trust the new centre backs. We certainly have no clue if anyone can do a job on the left should Clarke go. This is where Speakman and Mowbray are pulling in slightly different directions in my eyes
