Circular Runways - what a cracking idea this is.......

I'm sure the highly trained engineers and scientific bods will check out the musings of the armchair naysayers of the smb. There's bound to be something on here they haven't thought of...

Wouldn't the banking and curve add more components to the motion when landing and taking off?
The banking would be a nightmare when landing it would need the pilot to hit the exact correct spot at the exact correct (and weird) angle every time.
It could maybe be automated.

Indeed, rather than having a landing zone a few hundred yards longs you now have a specific spot.

Probably fine for normal operation but when a plane lands in an emergency where do the fire engines and catch nets go? if they think there may be a gear fault that will prevent them carrying the curve do they have to ditch somewhere?

Makes everything far more complicated in a job that's already off the scales for stress.

Might be theoretically more efficient, but it would be a total mess in reality.

Also, who wants to land at 100mph, then instantly turn sharply round a neverending bend. It would be awful

It's only as stressful as you make it tbh. We've got some right f***ing drama queens and twitchers who buy right into that super stress bullshit because they think it makes them look good. Then you've got the people who are so terrified of making a mistake they can barely do the job.

I reckon the whole idea wouldn't get past the safety case stage. Too easy to get two aircraft using the same bit of tarmac at the same time.

It's a non starter for many reasons and probably a nightmare for air traffic control.

Had it been feasible it would have been tried a long time ago.
