I think the only time I've been on my own was to go watch Dunkirk on an iMax screen, it was a last minute decision as I had a week day afternoon free. I don't see why its weird to go on your own, as others have said its not like you can talk during it!

Do it all the time, even overseas. Although I won't do dubbed voices and English subtitles these days, it's ok on your computer, but with say Vietnamese or Chinese dubbing at full belt, it starts giving me a headache.
