Chromebook

Morning,

Does anybody own a Chromebook? How does it fare against a standard Windows Laptop for word processing, internet use etc

Cheers

Mrs got me one last year. It's basically a platform for using the Internet. No internal storage at all. Shite for me as can't even use it for word it's all Google docs. Save up and buy a decent laptop.

Had one a few years. Not a gamer or anything, so it does nearly everything I need at home. Great for browsing, odd bits of word processing etc. Updates and patches are very quick - you hardly notice. Light, so it is great for working on the train or in coffee shops. From switching on the machine to using it is seconds, all you do is log in and it is there. I only ever switch on the big PC for processing photos or editing video.

The downside is that every Chromebook has an expiry date - six and a half years from the day that the model launches.

Beyond that date, there is no guarantee that Google will continue to support that device with security patches and updates.
