Town was always grim on Christmas Eve and it was a nightmare trying to get home afterwards.

Until they invented Black Eye Friday to take its place

used to love xmas eve in Chester when i was around 19-20...all the lads out from dinnertime, pubs rammed...all day drink finishing up at Togos night spot then a chicken chow mein before turning in...place is a ghost town these days.

When I married a woman who has her birthday Xmas eve and we have to got to Tow Law from Durham on Xmas morning. Will never drink if I am driving next day.

Routine now is we go out for meal about 7pm, back in house around 9 and watch a film (Gremlins on ITV this year)

Not for me, the yearly Boldon pub crawl will commence at midday. Probably the best day drinking day of the year, although my capacity to hack it diminishes each time
