Christian its all about me speakman

I miss the days where players were actually scared to come play against us at home

Knock yourself out
We're a few years away from getting back to that. Unless you can spend millions it takes time to build a formidable side and a fan base that has faith in the team. Look at our cup winning side, a core of youth products, a couple of free transfers and a smattering of shrewd buys we'd brought in over several years. Ironically it took the signing of a journeyman striker to complete the jigsaw.

One more thing to add to that.
Pride. Sheer pride to wear the shirt of Sunderland.

Bet he plays fantasy football and has Kane, Salah, Antonio, Jesus, haaland , son

and starts Antonio in a 4-5-1

He didn't do that, it was Alex Neil (not part of 'the project') and Tony Mowbray. Anything else he has done is another matter, and he has played his part, but we wouldn't need a coach or manager if Speakman was responsible. Whoever fulfills his role at Manchester City doesn't get the praise that goes to Guardiola. There are glaring shortcomings in our squad which have been there since before we were promoted and they aren't being addressed, criticism of him for that isn't unfair.
and the players speakman signed? i think your post is decent, but genuinely asking whether guardiola has no input to signings? because we know how much control speakman has here, which is why ive credited him so highly. i cant imagine guardiola saying some of the stuff Mowbray comes out with regarding transfers. he (mowbray) seems totally out of the loop most times. and we know Neil left because of that. so, it's totally relevant and logical to attribute our recent rise to speakman. shortcomings? yes, definitely. the balance of the squad, even last season, was wrong. but haway, has speakman done a good job or not in the whole is the question? the answer is yes, and this particular thread is bullshit. you want to start a more reasoned debate? go ahead, id be happy to contribute and debate with you. but this thread, and this type of opening post, deserves to be put down.

So much hyperbole these days, no room for nuance. Only 2 year ago we looked to be struggling to get promoted again from league 1 getting beat 6 - 0 at Bolton. 3 years back before speakman and KLD arrived we were signing and playing wasters like mcfadzean. Yes things could be better but can we atleast keep some realism and balance to it all. Last season we bucked a trend and all statistics and fell short more down to defensive injuries than anything. We would all like to be on a further trend to promotion but it's been one league game so far and 3 weeks in the window left. Yet we have people going on like we're the worst team we've had. There's plenty to improve and deserving of constructive criticism but generally wish people would wait until we see what the final squad is before losing it

Mowbray chooses when he's out of the loop. He will let his mouth run one week about Stewartstown contract etc then say the next week he knows nothing and isn't involved.

Very selective

Couple months ago it was all 'I hope Speakman doesn't get poached by a Premier league club'. The lack of logic by people baffles me.
Not from me; Niel got him out of the shit in the play offs, then Mowbray managed the team one hand tied behind his back
Absolute grifter & bullshitter to go 8 months through 2 transfer windows & not sign a recognised striker is criminal
Our opponents on Saturday managed to sign 2 during this window by the way on about 1/3 of our turnover

He’s entitled to have an opinion and to be frustrated. If you don’t like it then stay off the forum after defeats.

Got him out of the shit in the play offs? We finished lower in the league from when he took over

That would be 5 centre forwards for a team that plays with 1 up front. What are we meant to do with them all come the end of September?
FFS !! Are you being serious ? Two of our strikers are inexperienced teenagers with less than half a dozen goals between them who were bought “for the future”. Our one experienced striker is currently fucked and won’t be fit til October. And we don’t know what he will be like when he returns,

Absolutely. Do you believe in the main we're signing players who fit the bill? FWIW I'm proud of most of the lads in our shirts. Our vetting in terms of character looks to have been good. I may be wrong but off the top of my head I'd say we've a decent record of winning games after going behind, a good sign IMO. Not too many shirkers in our side. Reminds me of something Reid said about his side, there's nowhere to hide out there wearing our shirt.

Are you finding it difficult to handle the uncertainty?

must have been Martin Bain who appointed both of those managers and signed the players for them.

You are a ****.

If it wasn't for him we'd be in league 1 still.
If it wasn’t for Alex Neil we would be in league one still..

Neil worked with the same players lee Johnson had, he just showed what a good manager was.
