Maybe we'll go back to Fer on deadline day? If a player has 8 weeks recovery for a knee injury I can understand a bit of hesitancy. I'd imagine that we could do a similar deal next Tuesday but have a bit more confidence that nothing will go wrong with a couple of weeks left. The last thing we'd want would be for him to break down again and have another 6 months out with us having used up a domestic loan.
It must be frustrating all the same. You have two players over the line and then they fail the medical.

You make a good point re the change of formation v Swansea but I still don't think it's the manager's fault that so many players acted like they'd never seen a football in their lives for the first two games.
With reference to your comment above why do you think we didn't sign Lombearts and Fer.
Btw I have always thought Fer could end up here.

He got it wrong the first two games and had admitted as much himself by saying they'll get back to basics. Leaving PVA and Jones 2v1 for most of the game was always going to be a failure.

It was the in commas part. It read like it was a made up excuse.

Dick said something along the lines of "Fer won't be fit for the beginning of the season so we move on."

Is it only us who latch onto a f***ing player and allow them to piss us about ? Although in most cases I don't think there's a genuine interest anyway. What is most worrying is that despite a weak midfield and lack of goals we now feel that our defence where we DID invest pre season is now our weakest area ! You couldn't make it up

Lack of goals? We scored 6 last night alone!

Name me one Premier League team that had completed it's business on the opening day of the season.

That's hardly the point. It's not that our business is incomplete, it's that it has barely even begun.

The voice of our management team - Advocaat - has stated repeatedly that we need 6 new players of first team quality in order to compete. As of the 26th August, we have 2; 1 of whom included an axe in the belongings he cleared from his locker at his former club.

Versus stated aims, no club in the Premier League has had a worse summer. Accordingly, after playing two relegation candidates and a mid table club at home, we're on 1 point and -4 GD.

Any optimism you have about the state of SAFC is entirely unfounded.

The answer was no then, you can't name a single club who's business was complete on opening day. So you point was bollocks. At least we've cleared that up.

Dick rates Kaboul, he's said it many times, so that's 3. And Coates, he had him last year and brought him back so maybe he rates him as well? We've brought it 5 players, that is in no way 'barely even begun'. We'll bring in a couple more by Tuesday, so that will make the majority of business done by kick off with some more running up to deadline - and if you look back at how most clubs do summer transfers, it's right on the average.

But I know I'm pissing in the wind here, the narrative on the SMB is set: The players are shit, the club is a shambles, the Chairman is running the club on a shoestring, Congerton is a clown, the Manager is going to resign, blah de blah de blah.

“He will have to make assessments a year away from the Europeans (Euro 2016), looking for a team that allows him to play continuously."

“Would that be Sunderland or Olympic Marseille? The problem with OM is that talks were in the pipeline before Bielsa resigned.

“De Guzman wants to wait a moment. If Sunderland are willing to take him on loan without anything else, we would probably take that into account. Bournemouth? Other English clubs have also moved, but always to borrow.”

Oof.

So your point is that the players are good? The club is well run? It's well funded? Congerton's doing a good job? Advocaat's happy?

If it is, that's about the most extraordinary opinion ever professed on the SMB.

I'm not sure he has said anything of the sort. I merely read it as "Advocaat can't be as unhappy as he is making out, because he clearly had input into the recruitment thus far"

Advocaat is very clearly unhappy, and specifically unhappy about the business we've yet to do.

In fairness to Spav clubs have done about 80%-90% of their business by the start of the season. Swansea, Stoke and Southampton have all but done theirs and the rest will adding the finishing touches. We need 3 quality signings in. That's the bare minimum. Coates was here last season. Dick clearly want Lombaerts and Fer but didn't get them. He took Kaboul as an alternative. So only Lens and M'Vila are real quality. It depends on who he wanted. If he want the likes of Lombaerts, Fer, Lochia, Claise as the other four he has been badly let down.

People are still trying to excuse Short from any blame. But the buck stops with him. This mess is down to years of mismanagement of appointing the wrong people and trying to work on a shoestring. Short is the leader of this FFP but his own house is in a mess. The wage bill has gone from £58m to £70m under Shorts watch. He must have know this or else he has no real interest in the club.

Ah yes, the standard every post must be full of extremes response. Unless you are constantly slamming the club over everything they do, you must be 100% happy at what's going on. Gotcha.

A manager being unhappy with player recruitment is nothing new. He is unhappy with MVila? Lens? Kaboul (he had no input there then?). He really does need to consider his position, if so.

Jonathan de Guzman's agent says his client may still move to #SAFC, if it's a loan without the option to buy.
then he can piss off. Why would we consider a deal for a player so reluctant to play for the club for more than a year. It's like agreeing to shag someone as long as they don't expect a cuddle afterwards.
