How is this muppet getting a game for England? OPENING the bowling too.

Fuck sake.

 You couldn't wait to get in there!

I don't rate him at all, but its Jordan who I have the problem with.

Who else is there?

We've got Finn, Broad and Anderson as strike bowlers - I just don't see what he brings to the team? He isn't good enough to he in for his bowling and his batting is terrible. Rather play Stokes or Tredwell and get the overs from a combination of one of those plus Ali, Bopara and Root.

No I do agree, I was thinking we must have some bowlers better than Jordan and Woakes, surely. I have a problem with Bopara, see how much he bowls here, but unless he is bowling 6 or 7 overs, he should't be anywhere near the team for me. He isn;t in the best 6 batsmen in England, nowhere near infact

Bang on with Bopara, he isn't good enough to be in just for his batting. I do think his bowling is underused though.

Bopara had 1 century in 107 ODIs and 17 50s. He also averaged 39 with the ball which to me just isn't good enough. He's only taken 16 wickets in 38 T20 internationals also. Bit of a loss to explain how the fuck he's anywhere near the England setup. Approaching 30 year old as well, hardly a youngster anymore, just doesn't seem to show any sign of improvement. 1 good game in 8 type of player

Because we have a frightening shortage of talented young bowlers. The plan is to take a jobbing seamer with good work ethic and try to mould him into the next Jimmy (or so it seems).

To be fair to the lad he has evolved from a joke player to a tidy ODI bowler. I am still not convinced with him in test cricket though - he only has one wicket taking delivery, the mild inswinger. He seemed to have developed a slow cutter vs India last summer which Dhoni did well to dig out but for some reason hardly bowled it since.

Also, for someone with such a good first class batting average, he looks like a tailender with the bat.

Because he had a good series in Sri Lanka of course. Been utter crap in Aus though, evidently more suited to subcontinent wickets.

doesn't he average basically nowt with the bat and average with the ball

In ODI's he can give you a few overs but can't be considered as a bowler as he isn't one but as he bats at 8 you can't judge him as a batsman either.

He should really be batting in the top 6 and only bowling a few overs in the ODI's.

He's played 24 ODIs! Averaged 16 with bat and 36 with ball. Worse than Woakes.

I think he has been messed about though, moved all over the shop, in for 1 game, then out, given the odd over here and there

Woakes and Jordan were horrendous in the tests against India, they got the odd wicket on the back of Broad and Anderson being in outstanding form. In the first 2 tests (1 on an absolute road) Stokes was the best bowler and the previous 2 were horrendous. I have no idea why he got dropped for that 3rd test.

They said on commentary that David Saker has taken Woakes under his wing, pretty much sums up why he is in the team.

Ok, I'll rephrase that for you - he's never been given a chance in a role that best suits him. He's NOT a number 7/8 batsman as has been highlighted in the media this last fortnight.

You must've missed that.

Gary Ballance isn't a number 3, Moeen Ali isn't a six etc. We have plenty of players who have been played in their 'wrong', non-county positions but they have made the most of the opportunity given to them. Stokes has ended up down the arse end of the order because he keeps getting himself out cheaply.

Batting order also doesn't explain Stokes's bowling getting clattered to all four corners of Sri Lanka.

Yes, you might question why Woakes and Jordan get the nod over him. I think the simple answer is they don't break their hands punching lockers and other infuriating stuff like chucking their wickets trying to break the pavilion window when there was no pressure. You need to be so much better to justify 'overheads' like that.

PS I am a massive Stokes fan!!

His third consecutive duck won't have helped either. As I keep saying on here, England want(ed) s fourth seamer who can bat, as the batting was looking so flakey.
