My mate’s son plays in that u15 team and he reckons the mags are after a few of the u15 side . It’s inevitable that they will hoover up all best local talent now which was one of my biggest fears when the Saudis took them over.
Not surprised, our youth setup is light years away from theirs, from the facilities right through to the amount of kids we bring through, that's not an opinion that's a fact. They already have Dickman and he'll know most of the lads anyway. could go one way or another

It does make a difference because no matter what we do, he'll always be a nufc fan at heart. Remember colbaclk?

The Colback situation was far more to do with money and us making a mess of contract negotiations than anything else IMO. I'm not sure how much stock I place in players being fans of other clubs. Most of them have been in academies since they were in Primary School, they'd put their career before any allegiance as a fan.

True, a little lad on the bairns team turns up in safc and nufc kits depending who he's been training with, they're non the wiser

Yup. I mean I fully expect any player who signs for them to be wheeled out by their website hamming up the true geordie thing - just like they did with Colback. But the reality is that this is just the club pandering to their base, and probably not driven by the player in question. I personally reckon the stuff from Flatley and England's fourth choice right back on twitter is likely prompted by their admin too. No matter how much money they have they'll remain hilariously obsessed.

As for Rigg, it would be so good to see him in the first team squad in the next couple of years. It seems like he could be destined for the top. Would be nice to at least see him in r&w before he gets there.

Aye? I've heard initially of two linked, but wouldn't surprise me as they are a great year group.

A positive rule would be some kind of automatic break clause if the player at say 21 did not play a number of first team games, fixed return transfer to the producing club. Hundreds of players must be shedded by the top top teams missing out on key developmental years when they could establish them at a good but not elite level.

Spoke to a youth coach at Newcastle and he said their academy is still way behind ours. Big emphasis on education we offer as there is a 1% chance of making it as a pro so (smart) Dads view this as more essential than loyalty to their club.

That saying, they will likely invest loads into their academy in the coming years which will only be bad for us.

The good thing is that with their apparent wealth, and their fanbase's preference for trophy signings, they won't be likely to offer much of a pathway through into the first team. If SAFC tries to maintain that pathway - regardless of the aims for the first team in any particular season - we will still be able to differentiate I think.

If other clubs are emulated then it won't matter, you'd have 16-18 year olds on contracts which set them for life, a few years of loans then bombed out to lower end premier League teams or lower

The question is what is the most important? Money or career? If you are good enough the money will come. Being at Man C on 6k a week at 19 leaves little motivation. As the great book says... There's no hunger in paradise.

Well it’ll mainly boil down to as a 14 year old what kind of advice he’s being given by his family.
There’s more prospect of him making the first team in the next 4 or 5 years as there is up the road or any of the bugged premiership clubs.

Yeah went on loan to Peterbourgh from Jan till end of season but didn't get a kick after his first week there
Played 13 games, but got left out towards the end of the season when they were all but relegated so they could start to plan for next season.

I suppose this is where a big chunk of that self sufficient plan comes into play and why the academy is so important.

I still belive (in the next 3/4 years at least) that we can be the place where the best young talent can thrive. We clearly aren't looking to splash huge amounts on ready made stars so making sure the academy is filled with talent that bridges the gap between youth and the first team needs to be a big part of going foward.

There's no reason if you have a special talent or two that they can't get some game time with the first team. I'm not suggesting this lad is up there with the likes of Wayne Rooney, but when these lads come along, it's pointless to hold them back.
