Chop sauce

Has to be Hammond's Chop Sauce.
No where near as good as it used to be but still far superior to HP and Daddies.
While back I had some own brand brown sauce, think it might have been Lidl's. It was approaching Chop Sauce but still slightly inferior.
Whenever I'm back in the UK I try to smuggle back a bottle or three of Chop Sauce, along with the proper bacon that makes my breakfast sarnies. The bacon here in France is nice but, it's sliced so thin that it turns into shrapnel the minute it hits the (again smuggled in) hot lard in the frying pan.

Not got a Lidl or Marksies there? British week in Lidl is decent for stocking up on bacon and you can always pick bacon, sausages, brown sauce etc up in M&S

British week in Lidl's here is frozen roast potatoes and fish and chips. Not sure but didn't M&S food in France pack up because of Brexit. At any rate, no M&S within a couple of hours from here and the bacon in Lidl's is the shrapnel type.
I've never understood why you can't get proper bacon in the supermarket here, with Denmark part of the EU.
Occasionally get bacon (collar) at the local market as the butcher's wife is a brit. Not very good, the bacon that is.

We get the bacon with an Irish flag on the packaging in British week in Lidl - the rest is of the stuff like frozen sunday dinners and stuff is rubbish like. M&S packing up in France rings a bell now - the ones here scaled down but recently the food selection has improved a lot

Don't get me talking about the price of lambchops here, need a mortgage to buy them. A good dollop of Chop Sauce and they'd be completely hidden anarl

Chop sauce is all we had down Bradford way when I was little, was one of the first things to be packed on our camping/caravan weekends and holidays. Wasn't till in my late teens, early 20's that HP muscled in. Might give it a go when back the UK again.

It’s class to be fair, seems to have more vinegar in which really cuts through the bacon fat. I couldn’t find it in any supermarkets (or Amazon) a year or two ago and bought it for £8 off eBay

This may come as a surprise to some, but not all branches of supermarkets stock the same brands, regarding Chop Sauce, Sainsbury’s Arnison Centre have it occasionally (stock up when available ) Sainsbury’s Sunderland just off The Spire usually have it and Sainsbury’s Sedgefield never have it🤷‍♂️

The Hammond's factory in Yorkshire shut down (burned down?) a few years ago, and it was a few months before it was reintroduced from a factory in Lancashire.. The label changed as it was no longer Yorkshire chop sauce. Some people reckoned the recipe changed a little at the time.
This explains it. I've been harping on about it on here for 10+ years.

Foul.
Damn my palate.
