As some of you may know, I have a bit of a chequered past in book cover design. I've been through various iterations with the latest one and have 'settled' on a rough idea after running various ideas past friends.
There will still be work to do to tidy them up once I've decided but there are currently four options, all with different placement of cats.
Which do you prefer?
a) Cat on the right.

b) Cat in the middle.

c) Two cats.
d) Cat on the left.
None of them are the finished article and are just screenshots so not the highest quality.
Comic crime. Not claiming to be anywhere near as good but similar style to Chris Brookmyre and Colin Bateman. What genre is it mate?
Next to poison mate, give me a bit credit. It doesn't necessarily end well.Cats, f***ing cats?
I'm ashamed of you.

Without giving too much away about the story, the main character poisons a cat at some stage. The idea isn't meant to show the whole story in the cover if that makes sense, just reference a small part of it. Similar examples are the one in my avatar and this one.black and yellow are nature danger signal , much more dramatic & attention getting.
but would need a little summary of contents , cos illustration is a kinda strange combination.
It's a self help book about decisiveness.
Majority of people in various places have said the right one. I prefer it but couldn't explain why.right................. and i would know i own a bookshop
edit Mrs Cat(no) who owns said shop with me says middle

Makes sense although a mate who has read it thinks one is best because the lead character gets flustered when things are out of balance and it's the main theme of the book.I personally think the two cats look best, fits in nicely with the word "balance" having one on either side as well, imo.
Aye, that makes sense then. On the right I'd say if it's just the one.Makes sense although a mate who has read it thinks one is best because the lead character gets flustered when things are out of balance and it's the main theme of the book.
Cheers. Tried many variations of scales in early iterations, not too dissimilar to what you have produced but the feedback at the time was that it didn't work. I'm trying not to be too literal with the word 'balance' if that makes sense. Just want to hint at something that happens in the story.
cat on the right leans inward towards the book, middle cat whilst all symetrical and tidy looks like a lazy choice, 2 cats is one cat too many and cat on the left leans away from bookMajority of people in various places have said the right one. I prefer it but couldn't explain why.
