i assume pictures are being taken by the Tianwen-1 orbiter, which is positioned above above Mars and is orbiting the planet. Also the pictures in the article aren’t pictures of the Chinese spacecraft.
 
Only learnt today that the Soviet Union had defacto landed on Mars but it failed.

Be interesting to see how the new space race develops.

Interesting fact is that in the Cold War the US and USSR got the world to sign the "outer space treaty" which legally bans in international law the claiming of sovereignty over the Moon and planetary bodies.

The loophole however is that doesn't count for structures you build on them.
