Chelsea 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v Borussia Dortmund 🇩🇪 kick off 2000 BT Sport 1 • BT Sport ultimate

I actually like it. It means the play continues and if the linesman has it wrong they know how it’s played out
That's the whole point and linesman have allowed play to continue but after the goal they put up the flag and then VAR has shown them to be wrong. In the past the goal wouldn't even exist so nobody is as pissed off about a goal being incorrectly ruled out.

The other factor is they don't flag unless they are certain now as they know VAR will pick it up anyway. As you saw in the graphic a player's trailing leg makes it closer than it does when looking at the bodies. Sterling is obviously blocking the lino's view as there wasn't clear daylight between them so I can understand why he didn't flag as he probably can't see the defender's trailing leg.
