Surely depends when you're travelling. £36.50 with GC in October.

Weekend advanced ones may not be on sale for that time yet if the rail companies don’t have confirmed engineering work plans from Network Rail.

As @Charlestonian says, cheaper advance tickets go on sale 12 weeks beforehand. You can set up an alert. For your Fri-Sun in mid-October they appear to be £88.

If you know the dates you want/need to travel 12 weeks beforehand just setup a reminder on Trainline for your journey. Trainline will then send you an email when the cheaper advance tickets go on sale. Buy a single if the return journey isn't yet discounted, wait for the email for the return date and buy another single.

Get a 16-24 / 25-30 railcard if possible, it discounts prices by 1/3.

You should be able to get a return from NCL - Kings Cross for around £65-£70, that's before the railcard discount.
