Chaos in airports

Gatwick last week with fast track.

Train to champagne in exactly 20 minutes.

That included a trip to the bog, checking in a bag, purchasing currency and security and waddling up to the lounge.
Champagne and getting currency at the airport, living the dream there mind.

It’s all settled down hasn’t it? Not had any issues with passport control in the EU either. In fact I would argue that for the 2 airports I have visited this summer, Corfu and Faro it has actually made things a lot more pleasant. I have the tunnel to go through in a few weeks time so will be interesting to see how smooth that is compared to the airports. We arrived back to Gatwick a couple of Saturdays ago from Portugal albeit with only hand luggage and it took us 13 minutes from setting foot off the plane to getting out of the airport.

My new blue passport gets me through the scanners everywhere, except arrivals at newcastle, where without fail I get redirected to the manned booth

I had that at Heathrow with a new passport. It don't like my face. If the new passport is blue they have redefined black.

A load of people had trouble with the machines at T5 when I got back, and all of them was them not pushing the passport far enough forward. Not saying this was the case with you.

They're definitely blue like, why can't people see this?!

The machine problem one of the staff tried it with my passport and it wouldn't work. Worked for my wife though first time. Obviously the technology is flawed.

As for people not seeing it a professor of colour can't see it either.

"I'd say it's black," says Stephen Westland, professor of colour science and technology at the University of Leeds.
If enough blue is added to black, he says there will be a transition point when people will begin to see the colour as blue.
But that point varies for different people," he says.
That means that some might see a colour as an extremely dark shade of blue, while others would see it as black.

Perhaps allowing the Home Office not to be entirely painted into a corner, he suggests the colour might be "bluish black".

came back from faro to newcastle this morning. no hold ups at all at either end and for the first time ever my passport worked at those sackless self scan things at newcastle.

I’m transferring there in the morning from the States to Newcastle. Only got 90 mins window hope its not too bad.
If I was you, I'd assume you've missed your flight already. Been terrible all year, worst airport outside of the UK for this.

If you make the flight, stick thr lottery numbers on when you're home.

just a heads up for next year, read last week french customs are changing system and fingerprints and eye reconnection will be required for people travelling via tunnel, expected to be late May so just in time for half term.
No doubt will be headlines when get queues 10 miles lang. Shouldnt affect mlfs though as will be at Wembley for play off final

I’ve got a transfer there next week to the states, layover is 1 hour 50 minutes.

No baggage to collect/transfer though as I’m only taking hand luggage.

How long is it taking to clear security when you land?

I flew in and out of Manchester in last couple weeks ( with suitcases ) and it was no problem at all ( Eastern Europe -not a look at me !)
Those that had problems seemed to be the ones breaking the “ rules “ on liquids ect and overweight allowances .
