So London born lads from parents who have moved down there= support The Mags and he is a Geordie, Support SAFC and they are a Mackem. Yes?

apparently its comparable to the Basque area

Oh aye course it is......founded by Sunderland lads & they play in Red and White in honour of thier roots. Don't see any links to supposed geordie nation, whatever the fuck that is. Ignorance is bliss I guess!:lol::lol:

At what time do all the Fat Cunts in the crowd take their shirts off.
And show their Beer-bellies and Pais Vasco Tattoos off?

It's nailed on to happen, isn't it?

Shipbuilders - I was talking to a Basque and he said nobody was sure but Athletic were formed by British Miners?????????????

From Wikishite

Later a young student from Bilbao named Juan Elorduy, who was spending Christmas 1909 in London was charged by the club to buy 25 new shirts, but was unable to find enough. Waiting for the ship back to Bilbao and empty handed, Elorduy realised that the colours of the local team Sunderland Athletic F.C. matched the colours of the City of Bilbao, and bought 50 shirts to take with him. Upon arriving in Bilbao, the clubs directors decided almost immediately to change the teams strip to the new colours, and since 1910 Athletic Club have played in red and white stripes. Of the 50 shirts bought by Elorduy half were then sent to Atlético Madrid which had originally begun as a youth branch of Athletic. Before the switch from blue & white to red & white, only one other team wore red & white, Sporting de Gijón, since 1905.[3][4]

I checked this during the first leg when it was mentioned by the commentary team and it didn't say Sunderland at the time it said Southampton. It seems someone has changed it since then.

Edit: Seb, you knacker

think bilbao was formed by sunderland miners and shipyard workers from portsmouth and southampton but the shirts are southampton tops,a few basques came over looking for blackburn shirts but picked up southampton shirts by mistake.think thats how the story goes

the idea of the strip came from sunderland mate , however we didnt start them as was qouted earlier , i have a mate from over there and he is adamant that the club has no links with our club

Your mate is wrong. About the strip (Southampton) and about us not being involved in their founding. (We are)

seems sunderland fans are hating of the geordie identity, and believe me we love it ;)

I see Cisse and Ba haven't got up from licking Pardews feet in your pic.

What possible reason other than 'my mate says' could you have to disagree and what makes his word worth anything?

born and bred in bilbao he should know his clubs history ,like i say LATD

“@magswonnowt: @ALS_Fanzine very debatable links. Bilbao don't recognize any links with us” Fair enough, cheers.

don't forget that their nations anthem is about them leaving Northumberland and heading for a town South of the Tyne... in County Durham

Not strictly true......The Blaydon Races were held on Blaydon Island aka Dent's Meadow which was an island in the Tyne, which is now part of Newburn Haugh after all the small islands were removed. It was in the district of Newcastle at the time of the song. Or something.

As for the the Geordie Nation phrase, it's f***ing hideous cringeworthy bollocks.......but now I know how much of a tizzy fit some of you lot have, I shall be using at every available opportunity in the future.
