Changes tonight?

On the back of the brilliant result at Chelsea, it would be very tempting to keep the same side, I think we made that mistake against the mags when we could have played a stronger side but Bruce kept with the same team and basically waited until things went wrong before making changes.

At the time I agreed with him that you dont fix what isnt broke, but with hindsight that was probably the wrong decision.

With that in mind, harsh as it is I would make 2 changes tonight and drop Bardsley and Welbeck.

Bring Elmo in on the RW and move Rico LB. This will give us more attacking options on both the left and right side. More pace going forward on the left and hopefully will also leave Baines exposed in the air against Elmo.

Bent in for Welbeck and unleash the dream team partnership and hope it clicks.

Gordon
Onouha
Richardson
Turner
Bramble
Elmo
Zenden
Cattermole
Henderson
Gyan
Bent

Mignolet
PDS
Bardsley
Angeleri
Riveros
Steed
Welbeck

Should be strong enough to get a result

Ive been saying exactly the same thing mate regarding changes for tonight.

We need balance on the left and in all honesty Zenden looks the biggest goal threat from midfield so I would keep him in. Richardson was played on the right to stop Cole which he did brilliantly but it would be a big mistake to leave him there tonight. With Gyan supposedly out Bent will step straight in, the big decision is Richardson or Bardsley at left back for me...... would be a massive blow for Bardsley to lose his place after his recent performances. The big decision is right wing and left back otherwise the team should pick itself

Nice to have Welbeck and Steed to bring on should we need other options.

What have you (and others) got against Bardsley? He has been one of our most consistent players and you want to re[lace him with a player who is NOT a full back.
The only change I would make is Bent in if fully fit, or leave well alone.

If Gyan is fit then move Welbeck to the right for Richardson and put Benty in up top.

Can't drop Bardo after his recent performances.

Nothing against him, think he is a decent squad player, has done a great job standing in for Richardson and was pleased he signed a new contract. I just think that at home against a mid table team (ie not one of the big 4) Richardson gives us more pace and attacking options down the left side.

PS Bardsley is NOT a left full back ;)

I agree with your original post, and the justification here.

433 yes, but Welbeck has shown appetite to track back so without the ball its effectively 442 but with lots of options going forward

He is a kid and therefore likely to suffer from inconsistency then get labeled as being shite/lazy etc
