Starts Tuesday, heads up too for the 10:30 start. Weather seems pretty good up to now, but a lot can change in no time.

The trip to Canterbury back in early June was the beginning of our current six game unbeaten run (3 wins, 3 draws), we drew that one but put in a fantastic performance against a team hotly tipped for promotion. It was nearly the perfect four day performance, good first innings score, excellent bowling in reply, set them a target and try to bowl them out - only to see their last pair deny us for 7 overs or so.

Aside from Notts, we're quite obviously the form side in the division and had we not lost the 48 points we wouldn't be far off having a sniff at promotion. I said last week that I felt we could get 3 wins from the last four, so with one in the bag, confidence is up.

I believe Jennings will come good and with Latham partnering him I feel he's got good people around him. Steel has been immense, I think I've ran out of superlatives for him and Colly - our batting for once appears to be resembling something that we can be optimistic about for next season.

Mark Wood is expected to feature, reports suggest this game was viewed by 'Team England' as one he could play in, which may come at a very nice time following Coughlin's injury. It's a great luxury to have. I hope he's available for the other two games after this one, but it does likely increase the workload of Rushworth, Onions and Potts (providing the club don't see fit to rest him). It's probable that he'll have orders on how many overs he can bowl per day, but a hungry Woody, with a plane ticket to book, can't be a bad asset to have.

Kent won't be an easy nut to crack, they're still very much in the promotion mix, but as alluded to earlier - we've had the beating of them once this season. What's more, I think our lads are really enjoying their cricket again and with the pressure completely off I'm backing us to play a big part of the promotion shake-up - with Sussex and Worcestershire to finish.

No squad announcement yet. I'm picking:

Latham
Jennings
Steel
Burnham
Collingwood
Richardson
Pringle
Wood*
Potts
Rushworth
Onions

*Arshad if Wood isn't allowed to play. Would also consider Benny for Potts if the club are looking to limit Potts' workload.

Collingwood was fairly scathing of league rules that woody wasn't allowed to play for ashington to get him up to speed for this one so I'm sure he'll be fit to play.

Think the likes of arshad, weighell, McCarthy need to play a bit but we can't be too inexperienced, rushy, onions and potts maybe get a game off one at a time between now and the end of the season so we keep fresh but competitive at the same time.

Think McCarthy was on Ireland duties and got an injury.

Squad vs Kent (5-8 September): Paul Collingwood (c), Keaton Jennings, Tom Latham, Cameron Steel, Jack Burnham, Graham Clark, Michael Richardson (wk), Ryan Pringle, James Weighell, Usman Arshad, Mark Wood, Chris Rushworth, Graham Onions

for me the two to drop out are Clark and Arshad .....

2nd choice variation would be to keep Clark and drop Pringle. Keep Arshad and drop Weighell.

Depends on how they see it. Is Pringle doing enough bowling to justify a place, given he isn't getting big scores.

Pringle sent down 20 tidy overs in the 2nd innings against Derbyshire and was out to a sucker punch from Palladino when batting.

Tbh we might as well stick with the demon spin of Steel and drop Pringle seeing as how Jennings seems to be bowling more now.

Also, in his first over Steel spun the ball probably more than Pringle has done all season.

jennings bowled alot due to coughlin's injury, he wouldn't have had nearly the overs he had otherwise. great to see him use them effectively of course.

for me - and bear in mind i'm putting my XI prediction 100% [in the last 1 match] record on the line here - pringle keeps his place. pretty sure he was getting good scores in first class before the t20 started.

Latham, Jennings, Steel, Burnham, Collingwood, Richardson, Pringle, Wood, Weighell, Rushworth, Onions

Leggies do generally turn the ball more than finger spinners in fairness.

As for the side, I'd leave out Clark and Weighell - I think Arshad has a point to prove, let's see if he can prove it.

Judging by the weather forecast we could be looking at a good old fashioned 3 day game commencing Wednesday.

All we need now is for arch w****r Martin McCague to lead the Kent attack to complete the 1992/3 scenario.

Might suit us if there's a bit of weather involved, they need to win games to be promoted.

Utter Kents: Daniel Bell-Drummond, Sean Dickson, Joe Denly, Sam Northeast (c), Sam Billings (wk), Zak Crawley, Darren Stevens, Calum Haggett, Matt Coles, Adam Milne, Mitch Claydon, Imran Qayyum, Matt Hunn.

Will be nice to see Mitch back at the ground....always gave it 100% for Durham.

Trouble with him is that's he's so-so with the ball and so-so with the bat.

He has a score of 71(?) this season with a career best of 99 while clark has a century this season to his name. Of course we need a spin option and Steel seems to be landing it well, for a leggie.

Is it better for pringle to carry on for the sake of his bowling? Steel has a better overs to wickets ratio while pringle has a better economy rate?

But I also agree with you that pringle will play.

Regarding Weighell and Arshad. Arshad hasn't played any CC games so far while Weighell has only played in 2 matches - but he has played more white ball cricket.

iirc before the t20 started pringle was in a good run with the bat, got quite a few 50s, much of a muchness between pringle and clark imo but i think pringle has a bit more potential, especially with the bowling on top
