Starts Monday, thought I'd get this thread up early considering it's a bank holiday weekend and because, well, it's been far too f***ing long since we've had any proper cricket - the Leicestershire game didn't satisfy any need with the second half of it completely washed out. Moreover, I'd like to see what people's thoughts are regarding the team for the remainder of the season.

After this we've got:

Tuesday 5-8 Sept - Kent (h)
Tuesday 19-22 Sept - Sussex (h)
Monday 25-28 Sept - Worcestershire (a)

Tough looking games against promotion chasers, but as I said in the Closing Stages thread - it would be good to win 2/3 of the last four. I feel as though we've turned a corner slightly from the start of the season and we've played improved cricket from April and May.

Be good for some lads to get runs and wickets to give everyone something to look forward to next year.

I hope and expect to see Wood at some stage, as he'll need to prove his fitness for Australia.

For now, I'd settle for something like:

Jennings
Latham
Steel
Burnham
Clark
Collingwood
Richardson
Pringle
Coughlin
Potts
Rushworth
Onions

(That's a squad of 12 btw, not my first 11 )

Can't see any point in playing Onions as it looks certain he won't be offered a new contact. So McCarthy or Weighell to come in with either Clark or Pringle to make way.

Do you know that about Onions or ...... the mood music isn't great as far as I can see atm and from comments he's made it seems he's thinking about life after cricket.

I think Weighall is a good shout given he's just taken 6 wickets for the 2nd's.

I don't know what the situation is with Wood. Colly was moaning on against NTSL for refusing to allow Wood to play for Ashington, so that he could regain fitness - so maybe he's not ready for DCCC yet.

Onions played down at Leicester, so that's what made me think he'd be in line to play some part in the final month of the season.

I'm not party to any contractual talks or his plans for the future so I've no idea what to think.

If Onions isn't in the squad, Weighell would seem the likely replacement.

Don't know anything definite about Onions but I'd have thought if he was being offered a new contract it would have been delivered by now. Hopefully the club will use the money saved wisely.

Plenty time man, I'm not saying he will sign, just that it wouldn't be a surprise if the club waited until the season was over to sign the bulk of contracts.

Burnham should be dropped he's been awful in all formats. He's got a suspect technique and I'll be amazed if he goes onto do well

He scored 93* at Derby on Day 4 in a match winning effort two games ago. Completely took Imran Tahir apart.

Plus iirc he's only played four Championship games. His broken thumb kept him out of the others. He's only a bairn and he'll get better by playing.

It's clear to me he is going to be a good player, and circumstances have meant things have not gone exactly to plan this season.

However we should definitely stick with him, the last thing we should be doing at the moment is dropping him IMO.

This is his second season.....how many do we give him?

f***ing hell give him a chance. He has been out half the season injured. He will come good.
Exactly look at Clark. What is he now? 25 y.o. or something and only now is he justifying a place in the team. You/we may be a bit disappointed with his season but that's mostly because we can see his potential and his ceiling I think most would reckon is higher than Clark's.

The T20 just seems to have gone on and on and on and on and...............you get the picture

Because the mugs running the game are actually ruining the game. Enough studies have told them that less is more with T20 but they won't be told.

how man, i thought i was the resident 'burnham seems a tad overrated by some' gadgee, you've just elevated it a couple of levels and left me without a role on the board...now i'm jsut teh middle ground, and nobody wants to be the middle ground.
