Don't really get this anti-Congerton thing on here. His job is to sign the players the Coach wants, handle negotiations etc and work with the Owner/Scouting Team to establish budget and future transfers.Take Congerton with you.
I'd check the showers in the dressing room to see if the manager does/hasThe players don't seem to give a shit anyway

Poyet has been given more than enough resources to get us into a safe position - he is to blame. No-one else

Agreed, Congertons job is hard enough without a head coach who's as stubborn as a mule. Congerton has signed players who should of fit into Gus' system, but how can he go out and sign players when the system changes every f***ing week. For the DOF role to stand any chance of working both have to be on the same wavelength and there's only one bloke who knows what goes on on planet Poyet.I have never understood the anti Congerton stuff either tbh mate. I appreciate there is a general mistrust of the role in English football, but if even half of the stories that are coming out today are true, it's obvious the fault is with Poyet
Look, the players will want to win games as much as the manager, the chairman and the fans will. It's not as if they are a reluctant bunch being forced to play football for a tanner a week - they will have some professional pride and will want to end the season as PL players - for the avoiding relegation bonus, and to avoid wage cuts as much as anything else....
Hmm. Not sure how that aligns to professional pride. You saying you want the players to get booked? We didn't pick up a booking until the 91st minute on Saturday. Professional pride, my arse.
dick advocate has been talked about, would anyone have him?
no but you would expect them to be putting a few bodies on the line, a few crunching tackles and generally putting themselves about. I'm sure that is what he means instead of letting Villa walk through them, maybe a "professional foul" or two for the teamHmm. Not sure how that aligns to professional pride. Were you at the game? There were plenty crunching tackles, especially in the 2nd half - even Fletcher was throwing himself into tackles (well, he did it once near the dugouts). Don't let the fact that the referee was abysmal on Saturday cloud your judgementno but you would expect them to be putting a few bodies on the line, a few crunching tackles and generally putting themselves about. yes I was, all 90 minutes of it and I did not see one player put anything on the line. I saw them part on numerous occasions to let Villa score 4, yes 4 goals and yet it is my judgement that's clouded. The referee had nowt to book man, he booked their full back when Fletcher turned him early on and what did we do? waved them past at every single opportunity. Were you at the game? THEN, a borderline one.... maybes in my then 12 year old mind.... after a heavy shandy session, even then no promisesMrs Hart was a definite wad mind
Bridcutt did get booked for the the foul on the edge of the box, I'm sure that is the one the original poster is referring to. It's not about making interceptions, it's about taking one for the team instead of lying down in front of them for the goals which the lad is referring to, just my assumption like so I'll let him answerBridcutt should have gone in the book when he sent one of their men flying on the edge of the box, Fletcher was diving into challenges as I've stated earlier.Brown made some excellent interceptions and Rodwell put himself about.
It's not the lack of bookings that should worry us, it's the complete lack of tactics and plan that we seem to have. The number of times O'Shea or Rev had the ball at their feet and looked completely lost. Did you see Brown, O'Shea and Defoe go over to the bench after the 2nd goal? They were asking Poyet what they should do - 3 experienced international players like that with no clue whatsoever as to how we should be playing.
Yeah, agree with that to a point but there was no shortage of challenges going in. It was the lack of organisation and positional sense that was most alarming. Maybe if the players knew where they had to be on the pitch then they would have been close enough to make a challenge!I'm saying I'd like them to get close enough to put a tackle in. Professional pride should see you wanting to ruffle a few feathers and make things difficult for the opposition rather than let them pull your pants down. I would have rather PVA or Bridcutt took a booking than let Villa stroll through the middle of the park. It would have been nice for someone to tackle Bacuna and risk a yellow card rather than give him the freedom of the pitch to cross the ball for Benteke.
I was referring to a challenge earlier in the half. I think. To be honest, large chunks of the game are a big f*cking blur - I spent most of the game trying to convince my 7 year old not to go home(!)Bridcutt did get booked for the the foul on the edge of the box, I'm sure that is the one the original poster is referring to. You won't get an argument from me about the rest of the post
I spent most of it convincing my 21 year old not to go home and Oatway was doing the same with Larsson at half time . Actually my lad is as f***ing daft as me so we just sat there in silence in the 2nd half.Yeah, agree with that to a point but there was no shortage of challenges going in. Not excusing our performance at all though. It was completely gutless - summed up by O'Shea attempting some sort of drag back and toe poking the ball to N'Zogbia 20 yards from goal.
