Good player....BUT......injuries, suspensions, mad moments and not a solitary goal in his time here takes the shine off for me. We keep on making excuses for him but he keeps on finding new ways to let us down. Can't build a team around someone so unreliable.
Who makes excuses for him?

His touch and control of the ball in his possession isn't great though. Good opposition always hone in on those things.

He shouldn't sit in front of the back four though imo, if he's not there then the damage done is not so severe. I shit my pants when he receives the ball just in front of the 2 cb's.

Bridcutt or Colback should be the players who sit in that little hole, of the other two cm's.far less likely to lose possession.

I would try to sign Ki yes, that said, I want to see him pushed ahead of the 2 other cm's. He can play deep I just don't see the point when, the 2 above can do it as well if not better.

He can but not very well, its not his game.

Cattermole's mistakes were nothing to do with taking risks, they were errors. Plain and simple errors just like the Villa goal was an error.
None of them came about trying to force an attacking pass to gain rewards, they were a mix between basic errors and mis-judgements.
What couldn't you understand about gus's comments ?
Catts was our one and only pro active midfielder v hull , colback hid in the corner and was not involved in fact jack was in a large way responsibly for melors getting through in goal.
It"'s no coincidence that gus in his frustration claimed two weak players had let his side down badly , he wasn't reffering to catts.

Based on ability he's one we should keep, we have 3 inferior players out of contract who should leave ahead of him.

Disagree. I don't think he's better than all three. He is capable of carrying out a role though but unfortunately it's at a price.
Your blind faith is admirable but the coin is in the air for me and i think it's in the air for Catt's too.

Based on history, value for money etc etc i think the club would sell if a bid came in. He isn't cheap for what he provides.
If he stayed i wouldn't be upset.
I'm far more interested in getting any new signings right and also making Ki a permanent deal.

Oh, and by the way. Morning Rocky.

They didn't in january, the manager wanted to keep him.

I'd rather lose the 3 out of contract lads than Cattermole.

He really just isn't good enough. Whether it's getting booked or sent off, giving away stupid free kicks, gifting the opposition goals. He does these things on far too regular a basis.
I would agree with playing him higher up the pitch and pressing if that was the style we were going to use, but that's not Poyets style. Even then you have to take into account his lack of goals and creativity.
He would be a good player to keep around but is probably on upwards of 40k per week for me his contribution doesn't justify that.

They do. I would stick with Bridcutt for a good while yet though. He's technically a far better footballer than Cattermole and deserves a few games at least to see if he can bed in.
Not so sure tbh, i do like the look of him though.

I'd play Bridcutt, Catts and Ki.

Probably has created as many clear cut chances as the lads playing there now.

he's made a canny few humdingers that have cost us matches, and his temperament is questionable at the best of times - "on his day" he's a canny player, but he doesn't have enough of "those days" for me sadly

From what I've seen, Cattermole's long-range passing is better than Ki's.
Like it true and a fact, ki is a very tidy playe r but taking chances with risky thru balls is not in his repertoire.
Catts played 3 or 4 excellent forward passes first half v hull , I'm sure jack ( watching from a safe distance ) aws most impressed.
