No it doesn't.

The refs keep their red card in their back pocket, yellow in the top pocket. As soon as Mariner goes for his back pocket Cattermole walks. I think he showed great restraint as it was a harsh red, according to me, Jamie Redknapp, Tony Adams etc...

I think Alan Smith suggested it was harsh during one of the games this afternoon too.[DOUBLEPOST=1383518662][/DOUBLEPOST]
Saw the ref going to his back pocket, what else is he meant to do? Yes it was a stupid challenge and it showcased Catts' lack of brain, but if you don't think it was harsh then you're just plain f***ing wrong.

Harsh doesn't mean it was the wrong decision though.

Maybe not, but it was the wrong decision. Never a red card man, stupid an reckless aye, but a red card? Not a chance.

Imagine if you were on the receiving end. Would you deem it a red card offence?

No. It's the type of honest challenge I've made myself many times, getting the ball half the time. 9 out of 10 tackles or fouls don't injure players at all. See Elmo and Johnson running about 2 minutes later.

I've also made the same type of challenge McShane made too and McShane's is a bit worse as he knows for a 100% fact he's going to clatter the keeper and hurt him. It was a 70 / 30 ball at the very best. I've bust a couple of keeper's noses myself doing more or less the same

Different types of tackles both bookings IMO. Mariner wrongly thought different.

I'm not sure how you can say that.

I agree that it could have fallen into the 'stupid and reckless' category, but I can easily see why a referee might have deemed it dangerous. The way he goes steaming in man, f***ing hell.

It was late ,he was off the ground, and his studs were high so fuck off trying to defend the tackle. As for the rolling around the ground after the tackle, can we really complain about this sort of behaviour with Altidore,Fletch and Johnson in the team

Harsh red?
Agree i thought the brody oj tackle was worse..................also the mcuseless tackle on westwood was disgraceful.......he could have avoided it if he wanted to, you could tell by the way he looked up to see if westwood was ok then lay down in agony again, he knew what he was doing!

His studs weren't high, nonsense

You've got to move fast to have any chance of winning the ball. He missed the ball but caught the man low down, booking. Elmo holding himself halfway up his shin when he was caught on his foot hardly helped, it's called cheating.

few years ago it was a yellow now you cant touch a player, he knew straight away he never had a case with his reputation, end of the day Cattermole if theres a 50/50 red or yellow he's always going to get the red and the only person to blame for that is himself, that's why he knew he was walking before the ref even reached for his card

Agree in that he did go steaming in, but how was it a red and what Brady did later not a red? Catts' reputation saw him sent off, not the tackle.

Like every other team do in the Premiership!

If Jack Colback had made the exact same tackle it would of been a yellow, he got as red card cause on the back of his shirt it said Cattermole

1 out of 3, a trip to specsavers maybe in order?[DOUBLEPOST=1383519360][/DOUBLEPOST]

Maybe so, but it looked orchestrated, probably by bruce, the fat knacker.

I just don't think it's an 'honest challenge'. He went steaming in with little control, and didn't get the ball.

McShane's is different. I see where you're coming from and having spent a few years in goal in my youth those challenges where the keeper is massive favourite are always a little iffy, but to me it was a ball he had the right to go for, and it was more of an accidental collision than anything else.

And 9 out 10 tackles or fouls don't injure players isn't really relevant.

When people start calling the player whose just been taken out a cheat whilst defending the aggressor is where I usually draw the line

Though I admit there are rare exceptions ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1383519615][/DOUBLEPOST]

This isn't about Brady. He should have gone too.

I'll let you into a secrets keeps, it's not an accidental collision. It's a late, clumsy tackle with very, very little chance of winning the ball. I used to do it myself in a very different era. It's a booking at least now, unless the ref is Mariner...

The fact players aren't injured is relevant IMO. The game is trying to outlaw dangerous fouls. Cattermoles wasn't a dangerous foul. It was a late challenge worthy of a warning, a yellow card.

He didn't touch him at all, it was a late tackle one footed yellow card.

This. Brady's was much worse. No consitency.

The big plank knocking Westwood into the post should have gone as well.

When you consider the ref only has one look at full speed you can clearly see why he sent him off. It was wild, late and very reckless

Mariner was only 5 yards away. He literally had the best view in the house after Elmo and Cattermole. Full speed is no excuse, he had a clear view and made a bad call. He also had a perfect view of the Brady challenge, a borderline red card IMO, yellow [DOUBLEPOST=1383520036][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm defending the aggressor because he was a bit late but it's a contact sport. I hope someone does the same to Elmo next week, see how he likes being punished for making an error, made worse by the overreaction of a fellow pro.

Personally if you cant see why the ref could have seen that as a red car challenge it renders you pretty clueless imo. Even with hindsight of action replays the majority on neutral football fans are saying its a red so its madness to say the ref made a bad call by giving him a red card when you consider he seen it once and had seconds to make up his mind
