Cattermole again

Every single one of the games where he made those errors was when he was left to play as a specialist holding midfielder just in front of the back four, and most of them came as a direct result of that. It's not his position at all. I don't think we should play with that position at all tbh - but if we do, Bridcutt, Ki, and I would guess Colback, are all far better suited to it.

In that case add Southampton at home to the list. The first 15 minutes of Cattermole in that role almost cost us any chance of a result.
To be fair i blame Poyet for that one more than Catt's. They pressed up on all fronts which gave Catt's no easy passes in an area you don't want him to have the ball. Poyet should've switched Catt's further up the pitch for say Ki.

Ive rarely seen a side dominaye us so much ad that first half hour, dominate even, they were non stop.

Been through this before. Ki was equally as bad in the deep role that day. Nearly cost us the game.

For all his mistakes (not that many really) he's still been our best midfielder this season.

Not sure how people can blame Hull away on him, it was never a sending off and before that he was the only fucker playing midfield, the rest as usual went into hiding.

Didn't see any of the game last night due to work, was he playing as the holding midfielder in front of the back 4?

Not really. He was buzzing around and pressing a fair bit. Mistake and poor passing aside he wasn't too bad doing other stuff.
It was a fairly disciplined midfield performance but i'd say they all sort of overlapped each others roles at times. Colback possibly got himself most advanced at times but others he was furthest back.
Either way, they all worked hard and put a shift in.

Agreed. They all had good games.

His mistake directly led to the first goal. That and poor goalkeeping cost us the 2 points imo.
We were 2-1 with minutes to go, we had turned the game around and were in a winning position, thanks in part to Cattermoles performance.

If i'd been in the West stand i'd have knocked on the dugout roof to wake Poyet up. The c**t must've been asleep.
As you say, i can't ever remember a Premier League team pinned back into such a confined space without changing tactics to break the mould. People had almost stopped watching the game and turned their full attention to Poyet wondering when the c**t was going to do something. It was f**king bizarre even by our standards.:)

I think you're wrong Rocky. Ki's errors were generally ones in the flow of the game.
The first part of the game was completely different. There weren't even many errors. It was a tactical f**king disaster which was compounded even more by a very slow reaction to change it.

Southampton were fantastic that day.

He was caught in possession. If that was Cattermole you'd have a totally different opinion.

I've never really blamed Catt's for the early part of Southampton game, always Poyet. Catt's was put in a situation that clearly isn't his strength.
I've also said he didn't particularly make errors, BUT his limitations as a footballer were highlighted. It's up to Poyet to put the square pegs in the square holes. On that particular day he didn't, and didn't change when it was clear to every f**ker things were going badly wrong.

I like Cattermole, he's a good player, but he's proven time and time again this season that he is incapable of playing that deep role.

He annoys the bollocks off me. His passing is just really bad - he puts us under pressure by giving the ball away really cheaply. It's one thing losing possession from a tackle, but to give it away because of piss poor passing is just a waste.

1. Make sure Cattermole receives no passes anywhere near his own box when there are limited numbers behind him
2. Never allow him to make a forward pass longer than 5 yards.

That may cut out some good stuff too, but it would ensure that we were able to take benefit from the harsh reality that we are far better otherwise with him in the team than out of it.
