Cases today

45,000 daily cases yesterday in the UK compared to 1,923 in the whole of Spain.

That's the result of the different approach both governments have taken.

I imagine the UK was happy with restrictions to end but did it anticipate to have such high numbers in daily cases?
how many tests are being done?
not after an argument mind, just curious to see if that might have a bearing.

I agree unless you're crammed in together somewhere but one people still have a sense of fear

7 day average is 86,000 tests daily with 2% positive rate.
cheers, was just curious.
i suppose it's the positivity rate that's key.
are the tests free? when we were in portugal a few weeks ago our mate out there said they were having to pay for them although he might have meant the lateral flow ones that we get for nothing over here.
(it also might have got lost in translation mind, my portugese is crap:neutral:)

PCR tests are free if you book via your local doctor's surgery. You can buy the quick flow test in the chemist for 6-7 euros.

Probably because it pissed down during the height of summer here.

Aye the weather during the height of the Euros seemed to turn shite after being decent at the start. I know because I had loads of me mates round ours for a couple of England games and the plan was to have BBQs but due to weather we couldn’t.

So is it too basic a conclusion to say that Spain ( and others ) have got their response far better than the UK ?
Would the majority of the British public prefer it fully open as it is with these positivity figures rather than restrictions as on the continent ?

I think I prefer it open - can't have restrictions indefinitely. A lot (not all, admittedly) of the countries seemingly doing better are also those where it's easier and more comfortable to socialise outdoors.

They could be storing up trouble for when they eventually do open fully - delaying the inevitable, as it were. Things could also change when the weather forces them indoors, especially if that coincides with further relaxation of restrictions.

Germany’s weather has been as shite as ours this summer mind
If not worse
So what are they doing differently to the UK? Are they still under some form of restrictions?

I don't believe for one instant that the virus is more infectious here in the UK, or that we are somehow genetically more susceptible.

If it is that they are still under some level of restrictions then, as stated earlier, they can only be storing up trouble for when they finally open fully.

Think large events are still restricted and they've got the "vaccinated, tested or recovered" or just "vaccinated or recovered" rules for pretty much anywhere folk gather

Load of shite. We've been back to normal for months now.... 🤔
Ive no doubt you have. The article highlights those areas that arent back to normal yet. Obviously these havent affected you yet.
Life seems relatively back to somewhere near normal until you need the NHS or your parents die sooner than they may have.
Decent little article on governement manipulation of the narrative.
