Carroll Wankfest

I wasn't commenting on his performance, I do think he is a good player regardless of who he plays for. It was just the way the commentators were going on Townsend especially, about how he can do this and how he can do that. Commentate the game not one player.

Mag: everytime i see that jordan somebody play, he seems to excell in not touching the ball

Me: Every time I see Auntie Caroline, there's blood on some lasses face and coppers everywhere

Townsend was incredible, telling us what Carroll did against Blackburn in a match that Newcastle actually lost ....... he was intent on bigging the player up despite him never really troubling France.

IMHO there was no excuse for the poor ball when he tried to put Walcott through on goal, it was atrocious, he wasted a definite goal scoring opportunity, and he done that at least 3 or 4 times, woeful.

One decent knockdown in his time on the pitch. Hardly Lionel Messi the kid is he, he just looks like an Octopus falling out a tree on the football pitch. If he is the future of English football, we are in a worse state than Scotland.

Agreed......

Once again the SMB comes up with the perfect name for the next Bond girl.

was that the decent knockdown that he headed onto his shoulder? took some working out that fucker!

Carroll did ok for what he was asked to do. But is the 'long ball' the answer? Crouch is already an establish player doing that job, who scores regularly for England and has better ball control (although holds up play too much with his negative back passes).

The long ball is a 'Plan C' to the Rooney/Defoe or Rooney with Gerard behind options. It was obvious that Capello instructed the defence to miss out midfield and hit Carroll, which probs explained why Capello wanted Hendo to be further up. This goes against the 'Footballing' ethos Hendo has learnt under Bruce.

In case you missed it here is a bulletin from the big world...

Andy Carroll 7
Showed his ability to drop deep and link the play, although it was his obvious aerial strength that most impressed, notably when he presented Gerrard with an excellent first-half chance

Andy Carroll
The only positive of the night. Did well, worked hard in providing good flick-ons. Did not look at all out of place in this company. Big future ahead. Rating: 7

Andrew Carroll 6.5
The pick of the England youngsters, the Newcastle man fed off scraps for much off the match but kept running and competing for the ball. Found the run of Gerrard on a few occasions. A small plus for England on a bad night.

Andy Carroll
With the majority, the problem of 'playing with fear' that Fabio Capello identified as England's major deficiency is still there. The promising thing from Carroll's opening 70 minutes as an international is that he seemed to play exactly as he does for Newcastle each week, without the crippling fear that seems to hamper many of his colleagues. He was not particularly directly effective on this occasion, but he caused the French defence enough problems to suggest that, at the very least, he'll be a more consistently destructive big man against big teams than Peter Crouch. Here's a question though: With England so willing to hoof the ball in the direction of said big man, is it an 'outlet' that we actually want?

Surely though the biggest Carroll wankfest is on these boards - have you seen how much stuff there is about him?

That's called analysis.

There's no way I'm reading all that ........... suffice to say that the OP was to do with some of the media going OTT about Carroll when he had a decent, but ordinary, game.

I also don't believe there's actually a 'wankfest' going on here, it's a current topic for discussion on a discussion website ............. nowt too dramatic, there's only a few people actually posting comments.

England were shite last night and the biggest reason for that were the tactics used because of Carroll, the fact he is a target man meant that we hoofed it up to him at every opportunity and ended up surrending possession because of it. He did compete well in the air and battered the French defenders but the rest of his game was poor, he was the target of countless longballs but couldn't hold the ball up well enough to get Milner or Walcott into the game. The plaudits he got after the game were purely because he put himself about but that doesn't mean he played well.

Gerrard was worse though, he kept overhitting cross field passes and surrending possession and if we are going to persist with Carroll or Davies then we need a real striker alongside them and not someone who tries to hit a hollywood ball every few minutes and giving possession away.
