they aren't looking very good in all of this. sounds like they're trying to come up with any reason not to pay

i guess they didn't have insurance in place. don't even know if there is such a thing for what happened?

Tbh I’d assumed Accidental Death would be covered by player insurance, either it isn’t or the insurers are waiting for a full enquiry into the circs.

Odd one that. Even if the other clubs confirm they were never interested in signing him I don't see how that would affect whether Cardiff owe the money. Surely they can't be trying to argue that they only bought him because they thought others were interested as well? Clubs and agents plant stories about alleged interest all the time, it's not illegal in any way. Absolutely understand them looking into it and ensuring he was registered as their player etc, but don't understand this angle at all
Presumably it’s just to try and muddy the waters a bit more, by trying to form an idea that at the time of his death, it was due to circumstances that weren’t necessarily related to Cardiff and consequently as it was entirely outside of their control, they shouldn’t be liable for payment. Not that anyone is suggesting Cardiff were remotely accountable for the accident, anyway, or that contractually, that line of reasoning would necessarily make any difference whatsoever.

It did not have time to file all the paperwork plus Nantes hurried there paperwork thru after he died two sides to the coin

Cardiff increasingly looking like the arseholes here.
I mean, from a purely business point of view, it’s completely understandable why you wouldn’t want to pay out tens of millions, for someone who never even kicked a ball for you, following entirely unforeseen circumstances and that you’d look at every conceivable option to avoid doing so.

Looking at it from a purely human point of view, the club being seemingly more concerned about losing money than a loss of life, and not paying up, will be seen to be quite cynical by a lot of people.

As always, the reality is somewhere in between, which is why things like this shouldn’t really be reported until they’re settled.

I suspect they will reach an agreement but it won't be for the full amount.

The agents do need looking at though, exactly how an agent can decide where a player goes to or not is beyond me, theses "relationships" clubs and agents have is basically third party ownership and it needs to be stopped.

Its if the agent chose the plane in question to save a few quid that is the real issue imo.

What a bizarre course of action to take. This will happen all he time with transfers and it wouldn’t have bothered them at all had there not been the accident.

Unfortunately the media are...on the whole....scum. They will show zero respect.

I have no love for the media but they exist to report on what's before them.

They did a pretty good job of reporting the transfer, the loss of the plane, the search and the various tributes.

They now have a duty to report the financial shenanigans of Cardiff, Nantes, agents, etc, imo.

The two things are entirely different.

Cardiff looking like the pricks, they bought and signed him. Quite happy to take the sympathy and have a public out pouring of grief, especially after what they did with Leicester.

No its dying down trying to get out of it.

He was their player, they owe the money.

Bizzare.

Who cares if there were other interested parties? Cardiff agreed a price and signed him so that should be that. Hyped up reports when a player wants a new contract or a club are trying to sell a player is par for the course.
