How we could have done with a young Gazza last night. Sadly, I doubt he'll live as long as George Best did.

A much overused term, but Gazza IS a legend.

Pathetic man child; wish the tosser would top himsell - sooner rather than later. Women beating drunk, can't stand all these arse lickers giving it the "poor Gazza" mantra.

Had tons of money and blew the lot. FGB.

It is sad in a way because he was a great player but I have to say Im sick of hearing about him now like.

If Gascoigne really is a 'legend' then I've misunderstood the word ........ he was a good player who always seemed to want all the attention.

His tears were for him, not his country, and I was never taken in by them. If being a legend means wasting your talent and turning into a pointless drunk then fair enough.

I've often seen people claiming he's seriously mentally ill but seen little actual proof ............ I may be wrong but I see him as a daft bloke who likes a drink and has too much time and money on his hands.

Being a decent father and a good example, or helping young players, might make him legendary but driving around town smashed out of his head doesn't qualify for me.

It's the flaws that make a genius though. In his case - lack of inhibition, over exuberance, burning desire to prove himself and to entertain (probably borne of insecurity), passionate and irrational need to be loved/wanted, etc.

You marvel at what they make him to on the field, then castigate him for what they make him do off it.

Can't have it both ways.

Was Hitler a genius? Pol Pot? Charles Manson? Andy Carroll?

Give your head a shake.

Michaelangelo was genius. Beethoven, Einstein, Newton. None of which were ever caught driving round the quayside pissed.

Pele was a genius because he used his talent to win things and he's also twice the player Gascoigne ever was. He still manages to represent the game that gave him so much.

I do see your point however and agree to a very small degree.

Here man Gazza was never as good as people make out, he lit up a tournament in 1990 dont get me wrong, had charachter. Doesnt make him a "Great player".

People comparing him to George Best is a joke, he was twice the player Gazza was

Sums it up for me, the blokes a wanker and waster.

"Now 43, he’s been sectioned three times under the Mental Health Act."

My point has always been that he's been sectioned three times but never held, as they're able to do over a long period, for treatment ........ to me this means that he's daft enough to be referred but not actually mental.

As I've said before, "Get a f***ing job you lazy twat!"

Was he even that special then though either, nee doubt he had a good world cup but you would think it was Maradona 86 the way some people go on

I'm not sure about Carroll but I'm 'relatively' sure Einstein was never caught driving around the quayside pissed with those other 3 lads you've mentioned ;) (Imports brought in by Denis Wise I assume.)

BTW, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Gazza once say he believed that for people in Newcastle, the 'theory of relativity' was when you wondered who your dad might be?

Saying a genius has flaws is not saying that someone with flaws must be a genius.

As your post shows quite clearly. ;)

Hadaway man, Gazza and Robson (B) are the two best midfielders of my generation.
