Cancer Cure v Govt Funds

If a cure for some of the biggest cancer killers becomes available in the next 20/30 years, can the state afford to keep x million people alive for longer?

Will there be a premium on such treatment, or will it be kept secret?

Whether the NHS will still exist is another argument so assume it will in its current form

you mean if the cures become public knowledge?

its survival of the richest after tomorrow . f***ing tories

There's unlikely to ever be a cure for 'cancer'. There's loads of different cancers. We're already getting loads better at treating some e.g. chronic myeloid leukaemia. That's just one of literally hundreds though. Nearly every type of cell in the human body can spaz out and become cancerous so treatment depends on type of cell, where it is in the body etc.

There are many people with cancer cured. Not sure of the figures but I heard on the radio the other day (Radio4) people should not auto assume someone who has cancer will die from it and many go on to live to their full life expectancy. Not in my experience but that's what a so called expert was saying.

Let's find the cures then worry about " funding" .Horrrific disease and fair play to all those trying to find a cure for the many different types .Special thanks to those who volounteer to help others or raise funding.

In 20/30 years I’d expect a cure to be found for more than half

That's why there's so much (secretly government funded) propaganda against aromatherapy, homeopathy and forever living.

i fully intend to live to my full life expectancy.

I'm not sure if "Cures" is the right word for treating Cancer. Is there a drug to prevent cancer ? Not as far as i know. More effective drugs or alternative treatment will prolong life after cancer, but all highly dependent on early diagnosis. A first rate screening system would help. And early referrals to see specialists. For example prostate cancer. In my experience, fill in a questionaire, take it back to docs and get a high or low priority for tests. Also educating adults to go and see a doctor when something is wrong, will help. I know of two local to me who have gone to the docs too late, and both died because it was too advanced.

Life expectancy has fallen in the UK to lower than it was 5 years ago.
I have my theory on it, I didn't realise it had but something is a miss, I have been saying things on here for quite sometime.
Maybes there's some truth in what I have believed since I was quite young.

Quite frightening in your 40’s when people are dropping left right and centre. When I used to read about people passing when they were 61 (roxette) I used to think I had plenty of time left

A cure for cancer would put global markets in freefall Unfortunately there is far too much money to be made in death and suffering.

I don't believe for one minute there hasn't already been many cures found. Possibly even a preventive. But having X % of people not dying would cripple the world. Plus there's more money to be made in treatment.

No chance, survival rates for many cancers are outstanding now compared to even a decade ago, but bottom line is we are all going to fall off our perch sooner or later. Hopefully for most of us it is later, which is great for us, but also the money men. Forget about the fortune being spent on finding cures for dementia etc.,Forget about care homes swallowing a lifetimes saving in a couple of years, instead invest in ~Kanga pants guaranteed winner.

It's not a cure though, it's treatment.

How do you define a cure then? It can only come from treatment
Treatments just hold back the cancer imo.
to varying degrees depending on the individual.
most of the time it seems to come back eventually some sooner some a lot later.
i don’t think any of the drug treatments actually kill cancer for good.
the only effective cure is to remove where possible and even then......
