Can we put the pitch-forks away now?

We are struggling in the 3rd tier, someone is to blame and I think the players have disproportionately especially the young ones have attracted too much flak at the expense of
Johnson, KS & co who have been found out but as per Dennis Skinner used to say "When posh boys are in trouble, they sack the servants" and Johnson was sacrificed.
If we don't get promotion I can't see it ending in anything other than blood and snot.
Why does someone have to be to blame? Sometimes shit just happens.
During our time down we’re we have replaced the clubs owners, manager 3 times and with all their back room staff and the academy’s staff, and all playing staff apart from McGeady and Gooch.
So is it McGeady and Gooches fault? the fans fault? the Kitmans fault? the chef at the academy of lights fault perhaps?

This constant search for a perpetrator just doesn’t help anyone

This place has been a pure lynch-mob for weeks now, it’s horrible to read and enough is enough already.

The way everyone has turned on Speakman and KLD so quickly is crazy.

Speakman is human, humans make mistakes. Much in the same way Jermaine Defoe won’t score with every shot he takes, Speakman won’t get every move he makes right either.

Overall I’d say he’s done a good job here. Under his stewardship we have swapped McFadzeon for Cirkin, Pritchard for Maguire, Stewart for Wyke, we got a replacement for Burge which I didn’t personally think was necessary but each to their own, the new signing Clark looks class and Matete looks decent. In fact almost every player we have signed seems to be an improvement on the player they have replaced. The club seems to have a structure now with a good scouting networks, and on the whole the football has been a lot more enjoyable to watch than under Jurassic Parkinson and Jack Ross.

Alright he’s fucked up letting too many defenders go at once, and something has definitely happened behind the scenes with Lee Johnson being sacked. But be honest now, were any of you that are calling for Speakman head now, not calling for Johnson’s head before he was sacked?

I kind of understood it when peoples knives were out for Stewart, but wanting KLD and Speakman out baffles me.

I just think we need to move away from the toxic atmosphere and try to support our team. Mistakes have happened, that’s life, dust yourself off and go again.

Anyway, come at me bed-wetters

I don't disagree with you, but we have taken 1 point from the last 12, 5 from the last 24.

The targetting of Speakman and KLD is uncalled for, but people are always going to have a go at those at the top.

It's nothing new and has gone on for all of my lifetime supporting SAFC, although obviously forums such as this make it more visible.
Sunderland fans are passionate, and many are completely bi-polar.....a few good results and the aforementioned people will be heroes again.

This week is a mini preseason. New HCs gloves are off now. It’s gadgy time for SAFC. Wembley and the Championship here we come.
Although it is "never the fans fault", there is one lesson we can learn here.

In previous visits to Wembley, we partied in Trafalgar Square the night before, and were largely muted with bad heads on the day.

If we get to Wembley, could we ease off the night before, give it the full-throated support on the day, and paint Trafalgar Square red and white after we've won ?

By mistakes did you mean incompetence?

So he's replaced the majority of players in a team that finished in the Play Off places with better players that look very possibly like finishing outside of the Play Off places?

Please elaborate, gip. Speakman is neither manager of the team nor is he on the pitch? Contingencies have actualized potential weaknesses, but it could be argued that had we been a bit luckier with injuries, we wouldn't have been as stretched as we've been for a while. We've simply been unlucky. Being in L1, with a decent but still limited budget, forces one to make tough choices and take risks in recruiting new players.

What was unlucky about the 6-0 loss at Bolton? That they kicked it in our net loads and we didn't kick it in their net?

Anyone using the term bed wetter when the club is looking at a fifth season in League One will obviously accept any old shite that's served up. Speakman's objective is promotion, he can't be surprised if he's binned come May if he's failed. Very refreshing that Neil effectively hoyed him under the bus at the very first opportunity.

but you are judging him off 5 seasons when he has only been here one.
There was a helluv a mess to clean up and as the OP says he has made mistakes.
so what do we do? Bin him and replace him with someone else who has his own ideas then bin him if we are still here.
sooner or later you are going to have to give someone time to sort the problem out.
I am sure if KLD and KS were more open then they will be the first to admit that both of them have made mistakes.
FWIW I think they got the appointment of LJ wrong but let us remember it happened within days of them arriving themselves.
I think they have rectified that mistake with Alex Neil but too late. We have little choice but to hope for the playoffs or see a significant improvement at the start of next season.
if not, you can get the pitchforks back out !

Neil's interview was a breath of fresh air. Hopefully he can sort this mess out.

If it’s not ok to ask questions now when will it be.
We’re staring down the barrel of a 5th season in L1 and have wealthy owners who don’t seem the slightest bit interested in investing significantly in the first team.

Come the summer no doubt we’ll lose at least a couple of our better players and replace them with loans or free transfers.

We look no better equipped for promotion than we did on our first day back in this league, in fact incredibly we look further away than ever.

Still we’re all human eh !

Personally I'd have no issues with Speakman running our academy and being heavily involved in talent identification. I'd much prefer Neil having control over the first team squad. Currently, and in his own words Speakman enjoys total autonomy over all footballing matters at safc at all levels.

There’s one or two people do deserve sacking IMO. The way our club has communicated with fans during the last week or two, saying nothing of our pathetic performances on the pitch, has been nothing short of disgraceful at times.
Yes, I’d much prefer they spent their time mopping our tears and saying “there there” than waste it trying to recruit a replacement manager to drag us out of this shit storm.
