can we blame the low crowd tonight for our piss poor performance

of course the result was ultimately down to the players, they should be able to play behind closed doors if necessary.

what disappointed me was the apparent "couldn't care less" attitude of the fans. it was very much take it or leave it type atmosphere. it f**king hurts me to see where football is heading.

Sorry like but that is utter shite.

It was partly the fans fault the players were 2nd best to Bolton.

If football results are about fan suppprt then we should charge 200 quid a ticket for away supporters so none turn up. Then we will win every home game.

Football players are paid lots of money to perform. I can accept that a crowd booing players causes them to lose confidence and shy away from the ball..but apathetic crowds should have little affect on a team that is among the best 20 in the country and playing a lesser team. If we played Bolton behind closed doors then we should win as we have better players (certainly better paid players).

Dear f***ing god, the players and management team take the blame.

As well as the 23,000 who couldn't be arsed last night and the ones who did bother hardly got behind the team. Fans to blame as much as anyone.

Then why didnt we beat Bolton at their place seeing everyone from the club was going on about how amazing our support was then?

i didn't say that. i said the fans couldn't have given a flying f**k either way last night. are you saying the atmosphere was good?

ive been to many sunderland games where the fans have changed the course of the game and result. we did neither last night. whatever happened happened.

I'm saying the fans were not at fault in any way shape or form last night.

it baffles me that people believe fans can be blamed one way or another for affecting a game. bolton had 100 fans there yet they won

if you apply this logic of the amount of fans/noise depend on a team performance then why don't we win most of the away games when our support normally outsings the opposition and supports the team more?

if so then was the case not simply down to the Bolton fans outsinging the SOL for the full 90 minutes?

if support from fans guaranteed success then surely we'd have the same silverware as Man United but sadly we haven't

like O'Neil has said since last nights match

"“You can’t blame the low crowd for our performance. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t get through for their sake. It’s just disappointing and galling that we’ve gone out the way we have – it has nothing to do with the crowd. Professional players should produce a good game be it 100 people or 100,000 people watching them."

how come many teams come to SOL with poor vocal support but they still get the wins? yet the SOL crowd quite often get the roar up to support the lads but they still get beat?

aye the crowd can have some affect on players/team but overall they should be able to overcome it. Why did it take 28 years to beat the Mags at home as surely they are the most passionate/lively games for the fans?

it takes one to motivate another but do the crowd always starting getting on the players backs from the 1st minute?

it's up to the lads on the pitch who get paid the £xx,000's a week so surely you'd think they'd be able to put in a performance to keep the crowd behind them rather than sit in silence or even worse have them turn against them ;)

Fuck off.

Just because you've lost the argument there's no need to become abusive, unless you would be prepared to say that to my face in public, perhaps in the Metrocentre for example.

for the players poor performance you're correct, they're responsible for that.

in terms of real crowd support we might as well have played behind closed doors last night.
you are absolutely spot on. the crowd were not at fault for the defeat nor did they influence a victory. the crowd was irrelevant last night, they played no part whatsoever.
