can we blame the low crowd tonight for our piss poor performance

sadly there's nothing absurd about it. along with many others ive put in a few decades watching this lot, both at roker and the SOL.
ive seen good and ive seen bad but i don't remember watching a game in such a "couldn't care less" atmosphere as last night.

whats absurd about it is the "not enough passion to deserve a cup run" comment. Plain and simply absurd

I remember one match, I think it was against York in the second division, we were getting beat one nowt and playing shite, the atmosphere was totally dead. Monty turned to the Fulwell raised his hands and said "haway".
The reponse was instant and within minutes the ground was bouncing, we ended up drawing ones apeice and that was down to Monty getting the crowd going (he'd probably have been booked and hoyed out of the ground these days)

Wasn't uncommon at Roker if we're being honest.

Its the truth. The atmosphere at Roker wasn't always class.

It was class every week man when the real lads used to go.

Now it's all pc arseholes with their flags and you're not even allowed to sing anymore.

It's no wonder the real supporters now watch in in the pub.

Its a hard one

Can't believe that fans within 5 miles tonight chose not to go and wank there todger off

I live in Sunderland and gave had a season ticket for 16 years. I chose not to go last night. Weather was shite and I was tired. I'm content with my decision.

All real SAFC fans know our hardcore is 17k to 20k

FACT

I once stood (well ended up sat down) in the fulwell for a game against Watford in the cup at this time of year. We had about 11,000 there that day.

When it was on form the fulwell was amazing..... However, I've been in the fulwell when it has been deathly quiet before. The aforementioned Watford match is an example, you could have heard a pin drop for most of the match.

my theory is:

we've become so shit scared of Everton we just threw the game lol

saved us the bother now

Its the truth. The atmosphere at Roker wasn't always class.

People talk about 1972-1973 as though it were a season full of packed houses and heaving, passionate suppprt. For more than half the season you could have fired a cannon through the place. Crowds barely making in past the 12,000 mark. (not all of those faithful got tickets to the final either). A good per centage of that lot were there mainly for the potential bother as well.

it doesn't give me any pleasure to say it. having supported them through thick and thin i can't remember an atmosphere like last night. i'm sure they might have happened but i can't remember them.

all of football is struggling for atmosphere in all seater stadiums but last night was poor by our standards. i couldn't give a flying f**k about other clubs, our fans need to take a look at themselves. it might be hard to accept but we were worse than the players.
it was a f**king shit night all round.

mate, those of us who went, spent our money to actually watch it. The players were paid to do that and for that reason it is an absurd thing to suggest. Maybe if they paid the fans to turn up and the players had to pay and listen to us sing and chant then fair enough.

I think "blame" is the wrong word, but I have no doubt that the general air of apathy last night set the tone for what followed, and certainly didn't help.

Of course the players were to blame, but had there been 37,000 there instead of 17,000 then I suspect that the perfomances would have been much better all round.

For my part, I went there last night believing that it was irrelevant, because I was convinced that there is no way that we would have beaten Everton. I'm pyschologically damaged.

thats how it seemed to me and the only reason i questioned whether the fans deserved to go further in the cup.

i'm not criticising the 17k for turning out in the cold but it was a "take it or leave it" attitude in terms of getting behind the team. the crowd did nothing whatsoever to influence the result. some will say they paid their money etc etc but there are times when everyone has to roll their sleeves up and chip in when things aren't going as they should. this includes the fans if they want to go to wembley.

Totally agree. Players and supporters (stay aways and those who turned up) are jointly to blame for our exit. Neither did enough.

get fucked, man.

The blame does not lie with the fans.

of course the result was ultimately down to the players, they should be able to play behind closed doors if necessary.

what disappointed me was the apparent "couldn't care less" attitude of the fans. it was very much take it or leave it type atmosphere. it f**king hurts me to see where football is heading.

piss right off man you deluded oaf, i repeat what i said earlier;
