Can the lasses win the title?

No idea how it works at SAFC but at City where all sponsorships for all teams go thru CFM there is a small percentage, perhaps 1-2% going to the womens team on the global sponsorships. Team specific sponsors and matchday income add some money as well.

therefore Man City have loads of cash to play with compared to other women's teams, well compared to Sunderland. Our global appeal isn't very big.

Playing at our own stadium and training at our own campus means that there´s almost no major expenses for the womens team.. apart from the wages/travel costs.
Other teams will most likely copy the concept eventually.. Chelsea definitely I heard

We should try the same. I think Sunderland have a good starting point as apart from Durham we have the whole of the north to choose from in terms of scouting/finding youth.

I thought the SAFC ladies had "roots" in Hetton by now.. an established group of fans there as well?

Maybe it is. Probably just seems at not the same level to a team way richer than us. As for scouting I think we could canvas the whole of the north for youngsters before anyone can get them rather than looking abroad and going out for English internationals. Maybe if we are in the top league we won't lose our best players which would be a great help. Jill Scott, Steph Houghton, Luzy Bronze, Demi Stokes, Jordan Nobbs, Carley Telford & Lucy Staniforth of the current crop.

I'd argue that we now have the most talented player we've ever had on our books in Mead. According to wiki she has 74 goals in 74 apps, that's exceptional.

100% correct on both fronts.

She's still got another year at Uni, So I reckon she will be with Sunderland at least until the end of next season. If we can win the league why would she move? We should be more confident and start putting offers in for Chelsea and City's best players.

Beth has gone full time at the club.

quite a good piece on us there. what I don't get is why the said playing for Sunderland is a thing that has maybe gone against Mead for England. Unless the FA are really against the north then surely playing for the team who's supposed to be relegation candidates and being the top scorer has got to play to her advantage.

only thing I could think of was her playing is wsl 2

Him and Benno are there regular enough

You having a laugh ? ffs

Not at all. I'm a fan if the men's team.... It's the team I've supported since I was born. Not really interested in other teams. Therefore got not real interest in giving them £1m to spend on wages as some suggest. Or congerton spending time on transfers etc. all detracts from the team I support.

I reckon the FA are against all things North as playing in WSL2 didn't stop Fran Kirby getting games at the World Cup & I think Mead is a better player than her.

The lass on tv said 'maybe because she plays for Sunderland' so that was my guess. Kirby did score more goals last season.

Watched the BBC highlights just now.

Firstly where are the Chelsea game highlights? Still havent seen that one. Secondly I wish Jackie Oatley would stop peddling the narrative we are underdogs, maybe at the start of the season but if you win the league every year for the past three then are winning it again surely its not that surprising.

Also they spoke about Beth Mead for England and apparently the only reason she hasnt had a chance previously is because "she plays for Sunderland". f***ing hell

It would be nice to think if we're needing a win near the end of the season to win something / qualify for Europe, they'd move the game to the SOL.

Paying top dollar for the top players don't come cheap. That Academy ground must have cost some money too.

They used to play at the other ground. Somebody paid it and they don't get their money back from gate receipts. Do the ressies play there too?

Tis a cracking ground. I'm normally down there to watch the City lasses.

Fair enough - wages are nowhere near that and not sure why you think Congerton is spending time on transfers - is it widely known he is ?
